Chapter 765 Persistence

He seemed to have an attitude of being dissatisfied with Camiile. His eyes were filled with crimson

anger as he spoke, "Cami, can't you be a little more ambitious? There's not just one man in this world,

Ayan. Can't you live without him?"

Camille didn't know why the conversation always ended up back on Ayan whenever she talked to

Preston. Whether it was over the phone or in person, the topic would always circle back to Ayan and

she didn't like it at all.

She pursed her lips slightly and her face became serious as her gaze turned cold and distant. She

said, "Let's end this topic now. I don't want to talk about it anymore."

"Is it that you don't want to continue talking about it or is it that you don't want to face reality? Cami,

making mistakes isn't scary but what's truly terrifying is knowing that you're wrong but refusing to

change."

His words were full of accusations as if Camille had committed some unforgivable sin which shocked

and surprised her greatly. novelbin

Camille stared at him without blinking for a moment before realizing that she no longer recognized

Preston anymore. This feeling had been growing inside of her slowly until now where it felt like roots

had taken hold deep within her heart.

She tightly pursed her lips while looking at him indifferently before saying in a voice devoid of any

warmth,"I don't know what you mean exactly but Preston, I do not believe that sticking by what I believe

in my heart is wrong. Don't you have something that you've been holding onto all this time?"

"Yes everyone does but some people cling onto something wrong while others cling onto something

right."

"How do we define right from wrong?" asked Camille coldly.

Preston replied,"Holding onto unrequited love for so long only for it suddenly being reciprocated doesn't

mean everything will be perfect. It's just out of pity because he feel bad for how long he has kept you

waiting around; then everything will return back to square one again."

Preston once again brought up all the issues about how Camille shouldn't be back with Ayan. There

was a moment when Camille really wanted to tell him that she and Ayan had actually divorced a long

time ago, and they were now just ex, but Ayan was pursuing her again. But these words stopped at the

tip of her tongue as she held back.

It seemed unnecessary to tell him because even if she did, he would probably still think that she had

always been the meek one in this marriage, never making any effort for herself. He would also wonder

why she would want to get involved again since she had already freed herself from it.

However, Camille's understanding was not like that. If a relationship or marriage did not cross certain

boundaries and only consisted of misunderstandings or solvable conflicts, then getting back together

was possible as long as they felt suitable for each other. Other people's opinions didn't seem so

important.

Camille silently took a breath and didn't want to continue talking with him anymore. He was completely

living in his own world now where no matter what anyone said or decided, he believed he was right.

Camille lowered her eyes and became more convinced of this idea while maintaining an expressionless

face at its extreme point. Her lack of response made Preston have different thoughts about her

situation.

Preston asked indifferently: "Cami, do you think I'm too harsh on you? But I'm doing this for your own

good; I won't harm you."

He continued by saying that everyone in this world will abandon her except for himself who has been

by her side all these years despite breaking off due to Ayan. He remained standing there waiting for

Cami's return because he truly cared about her well-being unlike others who may deceive or mislead

her intentions.

"Preston," said Cami coldly without any emotion on display towards him while looking directly into his

eyes which showed signs of pressure building up inside them from trying too hard persuading someone

else against their wills - "I don't need your false promises nor do I require anyone else's validation."

Camille said, "You've repeated these words countless times. Honestly, I don't want to hear them

anymore. If you really think I'm an important friend, then I hope you won't say these things that I don't

want to hear and even find repulsive. Preston, after our years of friendship, I don't believe you don't

know what annoys me. If you think that I'm someone who can be easily persuaded by others with just a

few words, then let me tell you that you really don't understand me at all. Maybe you never have

because I'm not the person in your mind."

Since she's made her decision, please respect it and stop pouring cold water on her every time

because a true friend who understands her won't influence her decision-making process even if they

disagree with it; they'll only offer constructive advice and nothing more.

Camille expressed all of her emotions and dissatisfaction in one breath while sounding slightly agitated.

As soon as she finished speaking, the air in the corridor became quiet.

The two locked eyes for a moment before Camille didn't give Preston any chance to speak again;

instead she said,"If my words make you unhappy then sorry but every word that came out of my mouth

is something that comes from within."

After saying this Camille turned around and walked towards the conference room without giving

Preston another glance.

Preston watched as she left before slamming his hand against the wall causing pain, but he remained

expressionless as if he felt no pain at all.

His face was extremely cold as he stood there motionless for quite some time until Louise came out of

the conference room instead of Camille.

She had overheard their conversation earlier but quickly returned to her position, fearing that she might

be noticed. After Camille entered the room and sat down again, she came back.

Louise met Preston's gaze, but quickly looked away as she sensed his displeasure. She was anxious

because she had been waiting for a response to Preston's words from a few days ago, but had

received none. In contrast, Preston remained calm and collected when he saw Louise. He didn't even

remember what he had said to her before, so his reaction was indifferent.

The two of them stared at each other for a moment before Preston turned around to leave. Just then,

Louise called out to him urgently: "Mr. Baxter!"

Preston stopped in his tracks and glanced at Louise with an unemotional expression on his face. "What

is it?" he asked.

Louise pressed on with her question: "Mr. Baxter, do you remember what you said to me earlier?"

Preston brushed past her question and replied coolly: "I say many things every day; which one are you

referring to?"

Louise's face grew serious as she reminded him: "You promised that you would help me leave the

company and this project."

"And what do I get in return?" Preston sneered.
