Brian turned to Look at Rosalynn’s visibly unhappy expression. “Why are you with Maggie? Didanything happen between the two of you?”
“Brian, Maggie was set up. I happened upon the scene. We…”
Sanford tried to explain to Brian, but before he could finish, Rosalynn snatched the phone away.
“Did you do something to Maggie?” she asked.
A moment of silence followed on the other end. “Yes, but I wasn’t the instigator. She was set up andwouldn’t leave me alone—”
“And you seized the opportunity to sleep with her? That’s a pathetic excuse.”

‘m coming to get her right now,” Rosalynn snapped, not wanting to hear Sanford’s explanation.
“Don’t bother. I’ll bring her back later,” Sanford retorted.
Wordlessly, Rosalynn handed the phone back to Brian.
Brian exchanged goodbyes with Sanford before hanging up.
Observing Rosalynn’s icy demeanor, Brian said, “Sanford claims Maggie was set up. It’s not entirely hisfault.”
“Not entirely his fault? He could’ve taken her to the hospital. Why did he sleep with her?” Rosalynn spatsarcastically.
“Perhaps he didn’t have enough time to get her to the hospital.”
Recalling the night he and Eleanor had been intimate, Brian found himself defending Sanford.
Sometimes, willpower could falter, especially in situations of a sexual nature.
“Humph! That’s a convenient excuse,” Rosalynn scoffed, turning to gaze out the window.
