Chapter 984

Chapter 984

Stella was amused and decided to play along. "What did he do to deserve this reaction from you?" After a long time, Keeganpursed his lips and told the story in bits and parts.

From his incoherent speech, Stella found out that Keegan disliked Howard because of her. She never thought that she would bethe reason. The details were both funny and heartbreaking.

Stella did not know Keegan very well when they first got married. So, she decided to talk to his friends to find out what he liked.Since they did not really know her and may not want to engage with her, Stella often made desserts to bribe them into letting herlearn more about Keegan.

Keegan’s friends were good people. After receiving her gifts, they would tell Stella about his likes and dislikes.

Keegan did not know about this at first, but when he found out, he had a fight with her. Stella always thought it was because hewas ashamed of her trying to flatter his friends with desserts. But now, she realized it was because Keegan overheard Howardsaying mean things about her. He would tell people that she was "all beauty, no brains" or that she was using her looks to getfavors from men and climb to the top.

Keegan chose to use nicer words in his explanation because the ones Howard had used were way worse. Howard's commentsaffected other people's perceptions of Stella at

the beginning of her union with Keegan for a long time.

Keegan was understandably upset when he heard that. He had let Howard into his home and treated him well, yet Howard wentbehind his back and badmouthed his wife. So, Keegan went off on him right there and then.

When Keegan returned home that day, he saw Stella burn her hand making desserts. She even asked him to bring some for hisfriends when they met the next day. Keegan's face turned dark. He did not hold back from telling her that she should stop puttingeffort into these things and that it was useless.

Stella felt hurt after Keegan burst her bubble. She was so angry and disappointed that she threw away all her dessert molds anddid not talk to him for several days. From then on, she subconsciously avoided his circle of friends.

As Stella listened to Keegan ramble on about the incident, she suddenly asked, "So it's not because you don't like me aroundyour circle of friends?"

Keegan was stunned and frowned, "Isn't it you who don't like being around them? You pull a long face whenever you're invited toa gathering."

Stella was surprised, "When have you ever invited me?

"Did you forget?" Keegan asked.

Stella was taken aback for a moment. "Give me a hint, Mr. Kane."

"Vermont held a grand opening ceremony for his company. | asked if you wanted to come along, but you pulled such a long facethat you looked like a donkey. You even told me | could bring whoever | want," Keegan grunted.

Stella thought about it and recalled the incident. It was nothing like the version Keegan provided. He was not the type to ask ifsomeone wanted to go nicely. His exact words were, "Vermont is holding a grand opening for his new company today. He askedif you wanted to come. Do you? | won't bring my secretary if you do. There won't be enough seats."

No one would be happy to hear that invitation. ‘Well, you've already decided to bring your secretary. So why would you need yourwife there?’ Stella thought. "You can bring whoever you want because I'm not going!" She replied.

Stella pinched Keegan's ears and gritted her teeth, "Is that even a proper invitation? You literally asked me if | wanted to goAFTER you planned to attend the event with your female secretary."

Keegan frowned in pain and whispered, "I didn't plan on doing that. | just said that on purpose so you'd care about me."novelbin

Stella was speechless.
