Jaylene paused, lifted her gaze, and saw Grace and Darcie standing in front of her with a suspicious expression. She wasbewildered, not knowing why they would be at Cotton Rose Restaurant. ‘Aren't they supposed to be at The Deli?’ she wondered.
Grace wore a mocking expression as she glanced at the stern-faced Darcie with a smirk. "Your daughter said she's sick, butinstead of going to the hospital, she looked for a man to take care of her. It seems like she can't live without throwing herself at aman, huh? 1 "If she's not interested in marrying into the Depp family, you can just say so. There's no need to lie to Aaron andmake him foolishly wait for nothing!"
Grace's demeaning words immediately made Darcie's expression sour, but she suppressed her anger. Just as she was about tospeak, Keegan, who was standing next to Jaylene, beat her to it.
“Madam, please show some respect in your words. Jaylene only came here to bring me some tea. Please do not say such thingsabout her," Keegan said.
Jaylene was taken aback as she felt a surge of sweetness in her heart.’ Keegan is speaking up for me. It means that he caresabout me.’ 1
However, Darcie's heart skipped a beat upon hearing that.
If she had spoken first, she could have found an excuse to cover for Jaylene. But Keegan's words directly confirmed that Jaylenewas pretending to be sick.
Sure enough, when Grace heard what Keegan said, the mockery in her expression intensified. "Oh, so we're just sitting herewaiting while she pretends to be sick to take care of her boyfriend, huh? Mrs. Saun, is this how you define sincerity?" 1
Darcie suppressed her anger and said in a low voice, ‘Mrs. Esper, Jaylene did go to the hospital earlier for treatment. I'm sure itis because Keegan is not feeling well and asks her to bring some tea that she is here.
"The Saun and Kane families have been close for a long time, and Jaylene and Keegan always treat each other like siblings.She could not possibly just ignore him, right?"
Keegan did not expose Darcie's lie by saying that Jaylene came on her own as he needed to maintain his persona in front ofJaylene. If he were to expose them outright, Darcie might see through his act.novelbin

However, when Jaylene heard Darcie saying that she and Keegan treated each other like siblings, she felt upset. However,Darcie shot her a glance, so she bit her lip and kept quiet.
When Grace heard Darcie's explanation, she said sarcastically, "She’s sick, yet she's bringing him tea? Their sibling relationshipis unbelievably strong. If you didn't tell me, I'd think she's deliberately putting on a show for US because she doesn't want tomarry Aaron."
However, Darcie acted as if she did not pick up on the sarcasm. "Keegan had an accident before and hasn't fully recovered yet.Jaylene knows the doctor who's treating him, so she sometimes helps to take care of him," Darcie said calmly.
Jaylene was taken aback as she looked very confused upon hearing what Grace said.
Darcie had only mentioned apologizing to Grace. There was no talk about marriage.
When Grace saw the puzzled expression on Jaylene's face, she immediately understood everything.
It was all just an act, a guise Darcie had used to meet her. Darcie had never genuinely wanted Jaylene to marry into the Deppfamily!
Grace chuckled. "Didn't your mom tell you? She actually came here today to discuss your marriage with Aaron.”
Jaylene's expression changed. She abruptly shifted her gaze to Darcie and asked, "Mom, is that true?"
Darcie's heart skipped a beat again. She feared that Jaylene would act foolishly again, so she signaled discreetly with her eyeswhile saying, "You had a good relationship with him while studying abroad, right?
"You always told me that he was a nice kid. He hadn't graduated last time, so | didn't bring it up to you. Now that he has finishedstudying and you're getting older, it may be a good chance for both of you to get to know each other better. Perhaps there is achance for something to work out between you."
If Keegan had not been there today, Jaylene might have picked up on Darcie's hints. But with Keegan around and Darciesuggesting that she should be with someone else, she could not hold back. This was especially true when she lifted her headand saw Keegan frowning.
