Stella nudged Keegan with her elbow. He got her message and said, “Trevor, let’s have a mealtogether after this.”
Trevor put down the flower and stood back up. Then, he said, “It’s fine. I have a meeting with someonelater. By the end of this month, we’ll host a banquet to celebrate Stella’s return to our family and revealher identity to the public.
Take good care of her. If anything happens to her, you won’t be invited.”
Keegan was taken aback and did not say anything in response.
Trevor frowned. “What’s wrong? Do you have a problem taking care of her? If so, I’ll-“
“I don’t!” Keegan recollected himself and immediately interrupted him. “I’ll do everything in my power totake care of her.”
A faint smile appeared on Trevor’s face. Then, he walked up to Keegan and said in a low voice,“There’s still something between us that isn’t settled yet.”
Keegan kept quiet.
Stella hurriedly asked right after Trevor left, “What did my brother say to you just now?”
Keegan thought about what he had done, cleared his throat, and said, “It’s nothing. He was justreminding me to keep my
word.”
Then, he asked Stella, “What were you guys talking about over there?”
“I told him that if they don’t let me be with you, I’ll die right in front of them,” Stella said.
Keegan was speechless.
“Let’s go.”
Stella immediately went after Keegan after not getting any reaction from him. “What? Are you not goingto say anything about it? Aren’t you moved?”
Keegan scoffed. “I know where I stand.”
He could clearly remember what Stella said when he told her he would live and die with her.
Stella said, “You have to protect me no matter what happens, even if it means dying.”
Keegan knew she would never make any sacrifices for him, so he never expected her to use her life toblackmail Trevor for his sake.
He had stopped having such fantasies many years ago.
Vermont’s assistant was passing by the office of Green Hill Media after hanging out with his friends. Hewent inside, intending to print the documents he would need the next day to avoid coming in early inthe morning.
However, he found out that the light in the CEO’s office was still on when he went to get his things. Hepeeked through
the blinds and found out that his boss had not gone home yet.
The assistant looked at the time and saw it was already ten o’clock. Vermont was someone who neverworked late and would usually leave the office by seven. He could not figure out why Vermont wouldnovelbin
still be there.
He thought for a moment and decided to knock on the door. Vermont said in a flat tone, “Come in.”
The assistant pushed the door open and asked, “Mr. Snyder, why are you still here?”
“I’ll leave in a bit. You go home first,” Vermont pursed his lips and spoke.
His phone rang as he spoke.
The assistant glanced from afar and saw the caller’s name- Baby.
That was his first time seeing such a name on his boss’ phone. Vermont would always save his exes’names by their real names. The assistant wondered who that could be.
Vermont looked at the ringing phone and hesitated to answer it. At last, he looked at his assistant andsaid, “Here, pick it up for me.”
The assistant was taken aback.
