Chapter 42

Chapter 42

“Why are you here again?” A hint of joy sparked in Zane’s eyes at the sight of Lianne. Nevertheless,

the glee was dampened by her reply that duty called.

Zane smirked. “Go home. The chauffeur will take me.”

Lianne would heed the order and leave on any other day. However, Zane was not the

unapproachable CEO of the Atlas Group tonight. He was an ordinary man hurt by love. Lianne could

not bear to leave him alone.

Besides, Morgan was also urging him, “Zane, enough of the drunk talk and let Ms. Simpson take you

home.”

Lianne grabbed the car key. “Come on, Mr. Atlas.”

With Lianne driving, Zane narrowed his eyes at her profile from the back seat. She was focused behind

the wheel and did not engage with him.

“Ha…” He scoffed.

She had not gotten any ideas about him!

She was only acting out of duty!novelbin

It took more than half an hour for the car to pull up into the driveway of Rainforest Estate.

Lianne had delivered documents to this residence twice, so she knew her way around.

Zane sat motionless in the car with his fingers against his forehead. He looked sick. Lianne was

concerned. “Mr. Atlas, is your allergy acting up again?”

Zane closed her eyes and did not respond to her.

Lianne pressed the interior switch for the back seat, and the light hit Zane’s face. While his skin was

flushed, it was not a symptom of an allergy flare.

She repeated, “You’re home, Mr. Atlas.”

Zane opened his eyes and gave her a complicated look. “Can you make me something to sober up?”

He did not like to share his personal space with anybody else. Hence, Mrs. Cook was not a live-in

housekeeper, and Lianne was aware of it.

Without needing further instructions, Lianne dug deep into her memory for the recipe in the kitchen.

Thinking that Zane had gone upstairs to shower, she made the food with plans to take off directly after.

To her surprise, Zane had been sitting quietly on the living room sofa all along. With an unlit cigarette

between his fingers, Zane stared blankly outside the window. For some reason, the picture of him in

such a state tugged at her heartstrings.

Lianne was no stranger to betrayal. It was as if someone had stabbed her with a knife and dug a hole

through it. The pain was heart-wrenching.

She believed Zane must be experiencing the same.

Lianne handed the food to him and said in a soft voice, “Here you go, Mr. Atlas. Get some rest.”

Zane turned his attention to her, noticing the scrape on her elbow. “Did you hurt your elbow?”

Even though Lianne wore a long sleeve blouse, Zane noticed the injury as she had rolled up the

sleeves when cooking.

“It’s only a graze.” Lianne unfurled her sleeves, not mentioning anything about the car crash.

Since she said nothing, Zane pretended to be oblivious and took the food.

Alcohol was a staple in social gatherings. Despite Zane’s frequent social engagements, he never really

had anything to sober up. The only two times he had a hangover cure was made by Lianne. The

combination of savory sweetness was not too bad….

Lianne felt at ease as he finished the remedy. “Get some rest, Mr. Atlas. I should get going.”

“Spend the night here. Don’t go,” he uttered in a husky voice.
