Damien knew Bethany was only doing this to gain Caleb’s trust and form a better relationship with him.
Therefore, he didn’t interfere. He only gave Mrs. Faber ten thousand dollars for her to use for the
check-up. He also got the driver to drive them to Bethany’s hospital.
At the hospital, Bethany did an ultrasound for Mrs. Faber.
Bethany looked seriously through the report. “Mrs. Faber, you have pelvic ascites. You can choose to
take medication for it, or undergo a small surgery. Which would you prefer?”
“Will the surgery hurt?” Mrs. Faber asked Bethany childishly.
“We’ll anesthetize you, so it won’t hurt. You’ll just have to rest a few days at home afterward. I’ll talk to
Mr. Lawrence about it,” Bethany said kindly.
“That’s alright. Mr. Lawrence is very reasonable. He’ll understand.”
Bethany’s lips thinned. “Would reasonable people marry someone else out of nowhere?”
“I don’t know about that. All I know is that Mr. Lawrence went over to Florin for a bit.”
The more they spoke of this, the more angry Bethany got. Damien must’ve gone over to Florin to get
the marriage registered. However, she had to act well-behaved before Mrs. Faber, so she didn’t say
much. She definitely couldn’t burst out swearing.
As Bethany performed the surgery for Mrs. Faber, she had been meticulous, caring, and gentle.
After the surgery was done, Mrs. Faber was resting in a bed when her phone rang. Caleb was video
calling her.
The mother and son were very with each other, and they frequently made video calls to each other.
Mrs. Faber was taken aback for a while. She told Bethany, “I didn’t expect Caleb to call me now. If he
asks, you have to tell him that it’s nothing major. Otherwise, he’ll be very worried.”
Bethany was very touched. If her guess was right, she would be getting Caleb’s Whatsapp soon.
Mrs. Faber accepted the call.
Bethany didn’t leave. She kept wiping Mrs. Faber’s hands, rearranging the latter’s bedside table,
covering the elderly woman with a blanket.
“Mom, why are you at the hospital?” As expected, Caleb was worried.
“I had to do a simple procedure today. Bethany did it for me. She’s Clarissa’s classmate. She’s so
nice.”

Just as Bethany got to her office, her phone rang. She brought it out to find a message from Caleb on
Whatsapp.
At that moment, sunlight shone on Bethany’s face, and she felt like a young girl again.
Ever since she became a doctor, she felt bogged down by her work. She had to see patients in the day
and do overtime at night. She was so stressed that even her period came irregularly. Her face was full
of pimples. Every single day was terrible. Besides that, her relationships between the interns under her
