Chapter 542 Blood Is Thicker Than Water

What Chanel now knew was that Frank and Iris Benson had a fling in the past. If she exposed this,

what would happen? She also had to think of a way to frame Clarissa.

When Clarissa saw that Chanel had calmed down, she went home. Bethany was still there.

“Oh, you’re finally back. You’re a busy little bee, aren’t you? Are you going to spend the night here?”

Bethany asked.

This reminded Clarissa of Iris. She wanted to tell Damien about it.

“No, I’m not. I have to talk to Damien about something,” she said primly.

“Alright, alright, drop the act. You just want to share a bed with him,” Bethany said as she munched on

some snacks.

“Stop that! I really have something important to tell him. I bet you’re the one who wants to share a bed

with a man. Oh, wait. You’re interested in Caleb, aren’t you? I’ll send all the photos I have of him to

you.” After that, Clarissa sent Bethany the photos. “Just a heads up, though—he pursued me for a

period of time, but nothing happened between us. I hope you don’t mind.”

“Bah! Everyone’s had a first love.”

“Also, his mother is Damien’s housekeeper, so I hope you don’t look down on him. Though he and

Damien can be considered friends, it doesn’t really change anything.”novelbin

“I’m going to marry him, not his mother. I don’t really care who his mother is. All I know is that my future

husband is pretty good-looking.” Bethany started drooling at the photos of Caleb.

“It’ll take him a couple of years to come back. A lot of things could be different by then.”

Bethany’s expression grew serious. “That’s not going to be an issue, because nothing’s happened

between us yet. Now, if we were already in a relationship, then that would be a problem.”

“But you’ll be thirty in two years…” Clarissa didn’t want to be so truthful, but she had to.

Bethany stilled. “You’re not allowed to talk about that!”

“Even if I don’t say anything, it doesn’t change the fact that you’ll be thirty.”

“So what if I’ll be thirty by then? I’ll still be able to win him over! I bet he’ll be wonderful in bed,” Bethany

said. She was practically drooling.

Clarissa changed and packed an overnight bag. “I’m leaving.”

She had just reached the door when she received a message from the faculty of finance’s official

WhatsApp account.

Faculty of Finance: [The lecturers chosen to participate in the visit to Lotharia next month are

Professors Don Mclaurant, Clarissa Johnson, and Jesse Nell. Further details will be announced

tomorrow.]

In total, three lecturers had been chosen.

Among them, Clarissa was the youngest. She had probably been selected because she had studied at

Lotharia.

She thought it over. If she went to Lotharia as a visiting scholar, it would take at least a month. This

would mean that she would be apart from Neil for a month. In the past, she hadn’t missed him despite

not seeing him for three whole years. Now that she could see him every day, she felt like leaving him

behind was akin to chopping an arm off.

After all, blood is thicker than water.

Suddenly, she thought about the actual Iris Benson, her mother. Her heart twisted painfully. She and

Iris were also related by blood.

When Clarissa arrived at Grandpa Lawrence’s house, she saw Damien and Neil quietly seated in the

living room. Neil was drawing and Damien was reading.

“You’re here?” Damien looked up at her.

“Yeah.”

“Is Chanel okay?”

“She’s fine. I just feel like she’s lured me into some sort of trap.” Clarissa was a little lost. She didn’t

know what Chanel was trying to achieve by threatening to jump off a building.

“What was it that you wanted to tell me?” Damien put his book aside. He didn’t want to talk about

Chanel anymore. He knew very well the type of person she was, as well as her motives.

“Oh, that.” She glanced at Neil, and then shot Damien a look.

Damien chuckled. “Why so secretive? Is it really so serious that you can’t talk about it in front of Neil?”

“No, I can’t!” Clarissa said gravely.

Because she couldn’t talk about her parentage with Neil present, she was reminded of Charles not

blaming her for the issue with Chanel for Damien’s sake. True enough, Damien was as powerful as

could be.

“Since you can’t say, I want you to play checkers with me, Mommy,” Neil said.

Clarissa agreed.

Neil started getting sleepy after five rounds, and he went to bed after that.

Clarissa shot Damien a look. They got into bed soon after.
