Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 147

Chapter 147 My Wife Lives with Her Mother for Now

In the morning, Clarissa hitched a ride with Damien to the company.

He visited the audit department around eleven o’clock.

Since the audit department had glass doors, Clarissa was able to spot him immediately the moment he

showed up.

He glanced subconsciously in the direction of her office almost immediately.

Instinctively, Clarissa covered the segment of her face that was visible from her office door with her

hand.

After that, she saw Damien and Lucas taking the elevator to the bottom floor.

She didn’t know what on earth the senior management was about to do.

Truthfully speaking, Damien asked Lucas to come along for the final interview of the new finance

director.

Once the interview was over, Damien returned to his office. He spotted Madelynn sitting there right

away.

“Why wasn’t the door locked?” He frowned instinctively, looking displeased.

Madelynn found the question to be very odd. ‘Is it really necessary for him to keep his guard up against

me?’

“Damien, has Grandpa Lawrence recovered yet?” She pretended to sound very concerned.

“How did you know he fell ill?” Damien pulled his lips back into a mocking sneer.

However, Madelynn didn’t notice it.

She was under the impression that Damien’s feelings for her had never changed even after so many

years. Back then, she flew to Emmeria due to her spoiled and stubborn personality. Now, all

she had to do was to capture Damien’s heart once again.novelbin

He and Clarissa got married thanks to the marriage contract, after all. Once Grandpa Lawrence was

dead, that contract would be over. Or so she believed.

“Oh. I was shooting in another city a few days ago. Some time ago, I called Grandpa Lawrence and

asked how he was doing. He told me that he fell ill.” Truthfully speaking, the reason Madelynn called

Grandpa Lawrence was so she could find out if he was dead or otherwise.

Unexpectedly, that old bag of bones was still alive.

“Is that so? He’s doing well. It’s all thanks to the amazing medical staff,” Damien replied coldly.

“I hope Grandpa Lawrence will continue to remain healthy. The thought of you and Clarissa living

together because of the marriage contract makes me…” Madelynn started crying. She sounded like

she regretted being spoiled in the past. If it wasn’t for her attitude, Damien wouldn’t have gone through

all this torture and trouble.

Damien looked at her, and memories of the past flooded into his brain.

Five years ago, he devised a scheme where he owed a debt of billions of dollars and looked like he

was about to go bankrupt anytime soon. Originally, he assumed that Madelynn’s love for him was such

that she would grit her teeth and overcome the hurdle with him. Ultimately, she decided to fly to

Emmeria after leaving him, with the excuse of wanting to polish her acting skills.

Last year, Madelynn discovered that Damien became the richest man in Genovia, hence her decision

to return.

From that moment onward, Damien knew Madelynn wasn’t one to be trusted.

Moreover, he finally realized how vile and evil she was.

Grandpa Lawrence had been completely right. Since he didn’t take the specialized pill, Madelynn would

only be charged with attempted murder even if she got arrested. She would only receive a

tremendously light sentence.

Damien would make sure she would be charged with intent to kill, no matter how long it would

take.

“Oh! By the way, are you going home tonight?” Madelynn asked.

“My wife will be staying with her mother these days, so I’m staying with them,” Damien replied. He

stared at Madelynn as he smoked.

“What? Clarissa’s mother is awake?” Suddenly, Madelynn looked anxious. Anger bubbled at the pit of

her stomach when she heard Damien referring to Clarissa as his wife in a natural tone.

“Yes. She’s awake, but she can’t speak,” Damien added. Madelynn’s expression visibly relaxed. The

fact Theresa couldn’t speak made her feel relieved. She didn’t know how much Theresa knew when it

came to the incident in the past. What if Theresa didn’t know anything at all?

Madelynn had a feeling that what happened back then could no longer remain as a secret.

“Maybe all she needs is speech therapy,” Madelynn suggested, pretending to care about Theresa’s

well-being.

“It’s difficult to say. Anyway, I’m going to work now,” Damien said.

“Oh, okay. I’ll be leaving first. I only dropped by to ask about Grandpa Lawrence’s illness, anyway.”

Damien had no idea that Madelynn had slipped a USB drive into his bag before he entered the office.

He also said he would be returning to Clarissa’s house today.

Around four in the afternoon, Clarissa received a call from Madelynn.

“Clarissa, I’ve accidentally left a USB drive in Damien’s bag. Can you help me look for it? The files

inside the USB drive are extremely important. Please don’t let him know about this, okay?” Madelynn

sounded very humble and pleading.

“How did your USB drive get into his bag?” Clarissa asked in surprise.

Since Madelynn had tricked her many times in the past, she had to keep her guard up.

“Let’s not ask any meaningless questions, all right? You and him are bound by the marriage contract,

after all. You should stay out of our business,” Madelynn replied. Clarissa hung up on Madelynn, feeling

rage boiling from within her.
