Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 134

Chapter 134 Clary, Your Mother’s Awake

When the work day was almost over, Damien parked his car right in front of the company building.

He dialed Clarissa’s desk landline, and told her that he was downstairs waiting for her.

After Clarissa got into the car, he passed her phone back to her.

She immediately noticed she had received a call from a certain Anne Rowe earlier.

“Why did Anne look for me?” Clarissa sounded very anxious, fearing that something might have

happened to her mother.

“Oh. She called me and said that your mother started moving. Do you want to call her back?”

“Did Mom’s fingers move again?” Clarissa exclaimed in surprise and delight. “Does that mean she’s

going to wake up soon?”

It was as if she wasn’t talking to Damien at all. She was simply mumbling things out loud, wrapped up

in her own excitement.

“Um… I guess?” As expected, Damien couldn’t relate to Clarissa’s excitement.

Clarissa quickly called Anne’s number.

“Clarissa, your mother’s awake! She can speak now! Hurry up and come to the ward!” Anne said.

Clarissa was stunned for a moment. She couldn’t believe her ears, and spaced out for a long time.

“Really?!” Without her realizing it, tears started rolling down Clarissa’s cheeks.

“Just come here as soon as you can,” Anne continued.

After Anne hung up on Clarissa, Clarissa pressed her phone against her ear for a long time.

She was afraid that everything would turn out to be a dream, and that she might wake up soon.

After all, six years was a very, very long time.

“Are you free? Can you send me to Genovia Hospital?” Clarissa finally requested Damien, sounding

hopeful.

“Sure.” After that, Damien drove in the hospital’s direction.

On the way there, Clarissa couldn’t contain her excitement at all. Her thoughts kept running

everywhere.

When they arrived at The First Hospital of Genovia, Damien was about to get out of the car with her. It

was then when Clarissa remembered something. She stopped in her tracks, and turned around to look

at him pleadingly. “Can you please… not go with me?”

“Oh? Why is that so? Is there something that I shouldn’t know about?” Damien pretended to joke.

“N-No. I just… I don’t think you should go to places like hospitals. If my mom saw you the moment she

woke up, it’d be quite rude. There are a lot of introductions to be made too, So… is it okay if you don’t

come with me?” Clarissa begged.

“Fine.” Damien pulled out a cigarette stick and lit it on the spot.

Once, Clarissa had used this excuse before.

Damien didn’t notice it before, but now, he finally realized the reason. She was afraid that he might

reveal the truth to her mother, now that the woman was awake.

Clarissa dashed to the neurology department as fast as she could.

She flung the door open and barged into the ward. Instinctively, she called out for her mother, tears

running down her cheeks.

“Clary…?” Theresa’s tears dripped down Theresa’s pillow as she cried as well.

Clarissa pounced on her mother while sobbing like a baby. “Mom, are you really awake? You really are

awake! I can’t believe this! It’s been six years…”

Theresa patted Clarissa’s back comfortingly. “You’re still the same as before, Clary. You’re such a

crybaby! I can barely recognize you now that you’re all grown up, Clary. Back then, you were just a

high school student, but now... Well, Anne just told me that six years have passed, so…”

Theresa knew nothing about Clarissa’s current life.

That fact made Clarissa’s eyes well up with more tears. To think Theresa still called her Clary.

Finally, there was another person in this world other than Grandpa Lawrence who called her with that

nickname.

Countless emotions threatened to overwhelm Clarissa at that very moment.

After managing to suppress everything, she moved to sit next to Theresa and started recollecting the

past with the latter.

Anne chose to leave the ward to give the two privacy. After all, it was a family thing.

“What has your brother been up to?” Theresa asked.novelbin

“Luke’s a driver. He’s doing well. He dropped by all the time to visit you when you were sick,” Clarissa

replied while wiping her tears.

Theresa knew her own son very well, which led to her smiling bitterly at Clarissa. “He wants me dead

more than ever, doesn’t he? Once I’m dead, he doesn’t have to pay any hospital bills in the future.

What about you, Clary? What’s your job?”

Theresa’s grip on Clarissa’s hand tightened.

Clarissa looked very excited. In the past, she had held her mother’s hand countless times, all the while

feeling very lonely on the inside. Now, the same hand finally replied to her with a comforting squeeze.

Me? I’ve been working as an accountant at a company. Right now, I’ll be taking an exam for my

license. Next year, I’ll be able to obtain it,” she said proudly.

“You’re my precious daughter, Clary.” Theresa patted Clarissa’s head gently. “By the way, the hospital

bills must be expensive, right? Where did you get the money to afford a ward for me, Clary? Anne told

me that her caretaking expenses reach thirty thousand dollars per month.”

“Well. Clarissa didn’t know what to say. “Previously, Dad’s real estate company received a

compensation of several hundred thousand dollars. The person who ran you over also paid a couple

hundred thousand dollars, so the accumulated funds more or less contributed to your medical

expenses.”

Theresa shook her head. “That’s not enough.”

Knowing that Clarissa was unable to hide the truth from her mother, she could only tell the truth.“ Do

you still remember Damien Lawrence?”

“Yes.” Having met him before, how could Theresa forget that man?

“I… I’m married to him. He’s super wealthy, so he’s the one who’s been paying your hospital bills. Also,

he doesn’t know about the eyes. I’ve never told him before, so can you please not tell him as well? I

don’t want him to think he owes me anything.” Clarissa could no longer keep the truth hidden from her

mother. Besides, now that Theresa was awake, Theresa would sooner or later find out about the truth

behind her marital status.

As for the marriage contract, Clarissa didn’t utter a word about it. She was afraid that once Theresa

realized how wretched her life had been just for the sake of money, Theresa might be heartbroken for

her.

Theresa could only tuck Clarissa’s stray lock behind her ear while thinking, ‘It’s too late now. I‘ve

already told Damien the truth.’

Dread filled Theresa’s heart at that moment. Theresa had no idea where Clarissa’s marriage would

lead her.
