Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Before Chris could finish speaking, Susan rushed into the room.

"It's so pretty and stylish - just the way I like it. I love gold!"

"Ha-ha-ha! I didn't expect that one day I would live in such a luxurious room."

"Even if the Collins knelt and begged me to go back now, I wouldn't."

Susan was acting frantic, screaming with excitement.

Esther was speechless when she saw her mother's reaction.

"Babe, I'm sorry, my mom is overjoyed."

"Don't worry about it! I am just glad she likes it."

There was a hint of hesitation on John's face.

He looked at Chris and said, "Chris, we need to talk."

Chris froze for a moment.

His father-in-law had always been taciturn. But what did he have to say to Chris today?

Chris nodded, and the two came to the corridor.

John pulled out a pack of cigarettes, handed one to Chris, and smoked one himself.

Chris helped John light a cigarette and asked, "Dad, what do you want to talk about?"

John took a deep breath and looked at Chris with complicated eyes.

"Chris, I'm not Susan. I know you're not an ordinary man, right?"

John stared into Chris's eyes and asked.

Chris was silent for a moment, and then nodded.

When he saw Chris nodding, John's face was solemn and he said, "Chris, I don't care what your

identity is or who you are. I only have one daughter, Esther, and if you ever hurt her, I will fight you till

the end of life."

Father's love was like a mountain!

John had always been reticent, timid, and often bullied by Susan, but as a father, he would never let his

daughter suffer any harm.

Chris took a puff of his cigarette, his eyes darkening.

"Dad, don't worry. I love Esther more than anyone, and I won't let her get hurt in any way."

John breathed a sigh of relief, "I appreciate it, and I hope you can keep your word."

While Chris was talking to John, Susan was having a conversation with Esther.

Susan persuasively said to Esther, "Esther, this time when Chris Shelby came back, he suddenly has

become so rich. He had bought luxury cars and a grand villa. I think during the five years he wentnovelbin

missing, he made a lot of money. You should find a way to make his money yours..."

Without waiting for Susan to finish speaking, Esther said impatiently, "Mom, Chris's money has nothing

to do with me. Don't do this, okay?"

Susan said, "I'm just looking out for you, sweetheart. Men get bad when they have money. Chris is so

rich now that countless women will try to get close to him. If one day he cheats on you, you should

think of ways to protect yourself in advance. And the best way is to get all his money into your hands..."

Esther said firmly, "Mom, stop. I won't do that. I trust Chris, and he will treat me well and love me all his

life."

Susan stomped and said, "You know nothing about men! No men are trustworthy because they are all

scheming. Your dad is the best example. If I hadn't managed your dad like this, your dad would have

cheated on me a long time ago."

"When Chris Shelby cheats on you with a woman that is younger and more beautiful than you, he's

going to kick you away. I hope you won't regret it in the future if anything happens."
