Chapter 40

Lenny's heart skipped a beat. He immediately turned on the lights and saw that Scarlet had fallen down

from the sofa.

She opened her eyes in a daze and started climbing back on the sofa. Then, she curled into a ball andnovelbin

went back to sleep, as if nothing had happened.

Looking at Scarlet's pale face, Lenny couldn't help feeling sorry for her.

He got up, picked her up, and put her on the bed.

After tucking her in, he turned around and began making his way to the sofa, but he didn't expect that

she would toss and turn relentlessly in bed. She rolled to the side of the bed until she almost fell down

again, but he was quick to hold her down firmly.

He felt like his heart was going to jump out of his ribcage.

Even in her sleep, Scarlet was a stubborn little piece of work.

Lenny had no choice but to lie beside her and hold her in his arms. It was the only way to keep her

from rolling off the mattress.

He could tell that she was extremely exhausted. Otherwise, she would've woken up after falling off the

sofa. She curled up in his arms. Before long, her breathing became steady, and her eyelids began

fluttering rapidly.

She put her hand on his chest and grabbed onto his shirt.

His heart softened at the sight of this.

After a few moments, his phone rang. It was Rosaline.

He declined the call and sent her a message.

It read, "It's not convenient for me to answer the phone right now."

"Where are you? I need you. Come home soon, okay? It's raining heavily outside. What kind of

business is so important? Why did you go out during such a terrible thunderstorm?"

"I'll come home tomorrow. Be good and sleep tight, okay? I'll see you soon."

He didn't answer directly and put down his phone.

All of a sudden, lighting flashed and thunder clapped. With a shudder, Scarlet murmured, "I didn't break

it. It wasn't my fault. I didn't do anything wrong. Please don't make me kneel outside as punishment."

Her voice was soft and low, as if she was begging desperately.

Hearing that, he felt his heart ache. He carefully reached out and caressed her back to comfort her.

She seemed to feel his touch because she gradually calmed down and stopped talking in her sleep.

Scarlet had a good night's sleep and had never had such a feeling before.

Her hands and feet were always cold. She felt chilly even in her sleep. But this time, she felt warm all

over her body and was able to rest well.

In the morning, the rain had stopped, and the sun was out.

Having gotten plenty of rest, Scarlet squinted her eyes and stretched out her limbs. Then, she touched

something beside her.

Stunned, she immediately opened her eyes and saw a flawless, handsome face.

It was only then that she realized that Lenny was beside her and that her head was resting on his arm.

Wait, didn't she take the sofa last night?

What was she doing on the bed? Did she sleepwalk in the middle of the night and climb in bed beside

Lenny?

Scarlet thought that Lenny putting her on the bed wasn't possible.

Seeing that Lenny hadn't woken up yet, she decided to return to the sofa and just pretend that nothing

ever happened.

She carefully slipped out of bed. When she was about to succeed, Lenny suddenly reached out and

wrapped his arm around her waist. He tightly locked her in his embrace and gently rested his chin on

her head.

She was stiff all over and nervous.

This exact same thing happened when she woke up the morning after they spent the night together.

He hugged her tightly from behind.

But she was too scared at that time. She just wanted to escape and didn't want to confront him face to

face.

It turned out that she was right. If she had told him the truth, they would've only found themselves in a

completely embarrassing situation.

Now they got along well with each other.

She grabbed his hand and carefully moved it aside. When she was about to sit up, he held her tightly

again.

"I finally found you."

His deep, husky voice came to her ears.

When Lenny opened his eyes, he realized that he wasn't in the hotel abroad. He was in a strange yet

familiar place all at once.

Only then did he realize that he was dreaming. He dreamed of that dark, fateful night that was

incomparably crazy and full of blazing passion.

The woman with whom he had just shared a memorable evening was about to leave.

In a moment of desperation, he grabbed her and held her in his arms. When he opened his eyes, he

found that the woman he was holding was Scarlet. He was stunned.
