Chapter 239

Olivia gave her a disdainful glance and said, “Why on earth would you blabber about Uncle Declan’sinjury to Aunt Clara? She’ll be extremely worried!”

Ophelie mischievously stuck out her tongue and said, “I accidentally let it slip.”

Olivia shook her head and didn’t say anything more. She accepted that whatever had happened wasnow out in the open.

The two sisters snuggled together, cherishing the tranquility of the morning.

From a young age, they had leaned on each other for support. Despite having a family, they neverexperienced the warmth they deserved. They weathered life’s storms, relying solely on their ownstrength.

Olivia often wondered if she could have carried on without Thomas entering her life. Just having Gavinaround would have been enough to torment her to the point of despair.

After a while, Declan regained consciousness, and they returned to the hospital room.

Declan’s gaze bore into Ophelie as he commented, “I just received a call from your aunt. She informedme that she’s on her way here.” It was evident to him that this mischievous little troublemaker hadspilled the beans about his injury.

Fully aware of the trouble she had caused, Ophelie let out a mischievous chuckle.

Considering her young age, Declan chose not to dwell on the matter. To him, Ophelie was still a childprone to making innocent mistakes.

In the Hind Residence, Blake had both hands behind his back as he paced restlessly in the living room.

He seethed with frustration as the assassin he sent out had disappeared just like the ones before him.

A whole night had passed, and there was still no sign of the assassin. Could it be that he had met hisdemise as well?

Such a thought seemed implausible. After all, he was an esteemed member of the Hind Family’s elitecovert force, known for his exceptional skills in Irieson. His sole mission was to eliminate Chloe, adefenseless woman. Who could possibly have thwarted him?

“Damn it! It’s absurd that I’m forced to deal with this mess when it’s just a matter of eliminating awoman!” Blake uttered a curse, feeling his anger reaching its boiling point. He had never experiencedsuch intense frustration before.

Meanwhile, Jake remained silent on the couch, seething with the same resentment as his brother.

It was already disappointing enough that they had failed to eliminate Thomas, but now they couldn’teven succeed in taking out his sister. Was the Hind Family’s power waning? Had they become sofeeble that they couldn’t handle a single woman?

“Jake, have the people from the other two families returned yet?” Blake asked.

He still held a glimmer of hope deep down. If their allies had come back, it would signify a successfulmission. Perhaps some unforeseen circumstances had caused the delay. After all, the combinedstrength of the three families was formidable, and there were only a handful of people in Irieson whocould pose a challenge to them.

However, Jake’s response shattered Blake’s optimism. “I’ve already checked. The situation with theother two families is the same as ours. None of their assassins have returned.”

However, Jake’s response shattered Blake’s optimism. “I’ve already checked. The situation with theother two families is the same as ours. None of their assassins have returned.”

Blake’s heart sank. It was clear that all hope was lost. There was no use dwelling on it—his assassinwas likely dead, and a significant portion of the Hind Family’s covert forces had been wiped out. If thiscontinued, the foundation the Hinds had painstakingly built over the years would crumble under hiswatch.

Overwhelmed by a wave of helplessness, Blake made his way to the couch and took a seat.

Jake observed his brother’s dejected state and knew that their only recourse now was to seek theintervention of their family elders. Otherwise, they would not be able to deal with Thomas and Chloe.novelbin

Jake couldn’t help but entertain a thought. Could Thomas be the so-called chosen one? How could hisluck be so extraordinary? Even his sister, from a different family, appeared to be exceptionally fortunateas well. It was understandable to make a mistake once, given their underestimation of their opponents. However, it was different this time. They had deployed the full might of their family’s covert forces.

“Blake, do you think there’s someone secretly protecting Chloe?” Jake voiced his suspicions.

“Secretly protecting her?” Blake began to mull over the possibilities. The person who could kill thecovert forces of the three major families must be among a select few in the entire city. While Thomaswas a plausible suspect, intelligence indicated that he wasn’t present at home because he had alwaysbeen with Olivia.

If that were the case, the person covertly protecting Chloe must have a close connection to Thomasand possess an impressive background.

Who could it be?

“Blake, could it be that b*stard, Quincy?” Jake hit the mark with his suggestion. Quincy possessed thepower, the background, and a close relationship with Thomas. As Jake considered all the factors, itseemed impossible to separate this matter from Quincy’s influence.

After the failed assassination attempt on Chloe, Jake harbored suspicions about Quincy. Unfortunately, due to the absence of concrete evidence at the time, he refrained from bringing it up again.

Blake rose from his seat and began pacing anxiously in the living room. The more he contemplated it,the more he found Jake’s speculation plausible.

Quentin’s past remarks echoed in his mind. Quincy had caused quite a scene at the Yam Residence, openly declaring his friendship with Thomas. As he reflected on it now, it seemed highly plausible thatQuincy was assisting Thomas.

Blake vigorously shook his head. “Jake, this is dreadful news!”

It was a hopeless situation. The Hind Family couldn’t afford to offend Quincy, who was a formidablefigure. Even respected seniors like Quentin had been reprimanded by Quincy before. It was clear thathe stood even less of a chance.

Blake harbored a sense of resentment, but he realized that he was powerless to change the situation.Given their circumstances, he couldn’t risk crossing paths with Quincy.

“Blake, why is it dreadful news?” Jake inquired, puzzled.

“We cannot seek revenge for Drake,” Blake replied.

“What?!” Jake was taken aback. Why can’t we avenge Drake? He was my son, the future heir to theHind Family. If Thomas was responsible for his death, how can the Hinds simply brush it aside? Itmakes no sense at all! Is it all because of that old fellow Quincy? He has secluded himself from the

world for so many years, so what is there to fear? If Quincy dares to stand in our way, we can justeliminate him too!

Frustration and indignation surged within Jake. The situation now had become unbearable.

The dignified Hind Family, one of the Six Greatest Families of Irieson, had never experienced suchhumiliation.

The discontent within Jake surged like an unleashed flood. However, he couldn’t muster the courage toconfront his brother with his seething emotions.

Casting a glance at Jake, Blake discerned the resentment harbored by his younger brother. It was afeeling he shared as well. Although Drake was his nephew, he had treated him as his own son.

It was not surprising that Thomas had resorted to killing. When he came to the Hind Residencedemanding someone, they should have just let go of Olivia. Whom can we blame for our ownstubbornness? The Hinds have brought this upon ourselves.

After a moment of silence, Jake raised his head and asked, “Blake, are you saying that we will simplyforget about seeking revenge for Drake?”

Blake heaved a sigh and remained silent. He turned away and ascended the stairs, feeling utterlyfatigued. He was both physically and mentally drained.

Observing his brother’s despondent state, Jake rose from his seat and made his way out of the villa. He entered his car and drove toward the company.

“Thomas, don’t for a second think that Blake sparing you means you can rest easy! If I can’t end yourlife, I swear I won’t live as a human!” Jake was on the verge of madness.
