Colbert, who had been pacing in the living room, glanced back at Alva before promptly hanging up his
phone.
"Why are you still awake at this hour?"
With his phone put away, Colbert cast an indifferent gaze upon Alva.
As the ward had a companion bed, he had arranged for Alva to sleep there, while he made do with the
couch in the small living room for the night.

Alva pursed her lips. "I can't fall asleep."

the living room as he sank into deep thought.
Alva, noting his unusual demeanor, furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Colbert, are you alright?"
Her words snapped Colbert out of his reverie. He looked at her sideways. "There's a temporary issue at
the company that needs handling. I'll be back later."
With that, he turned around and left.

Alva didn't believe Colbert's words for a second. Instead, she was irritated by the fact that Colbert was
clearly worried about Eudora but had lied to her.
Colbert, who carried himself like a noble, had never, to Alva's knowledge, stooped so low as to lie to
anyone. Nor had he ever been worried about anyone other than Belinda. And now, he was ready to
leave the hospitalized Belinda for that bitch Eudora?
Seeing him about to leave, Alva quickly stepped forward, grabbing his wrist. "Colbert, don't leave. I'm
scared."
Her voice was soft, sweet, and melodious.
Alva furrowed her eyebrows, stepping forward to throw herself into his arms. Clinging tightly to him, she
buried her head in his sturdy chest. "Can you stay with me for a while?"
