Chapter 320

Chapter 320

“No, mom. I promise you-I’m fine!” Amelia spoke through the phone. I sat on the sofa, eavesdroppingon her conversation, and couldn’t help but feel jealous.

She appeared to be having some kind of discussion with her mom, which almost reminded me of mydad How would he be doing?

Unfortunately, those were not my concerns anymore. It was the price I had to pay for being with Marvin, and I was willing to pay that price. When I got with Marvin, I knew what I signed up for.

When would Marvin be home?

He had been working since early in the morning, and I would lie if I said that I didn’t miss him. AlthoughI wasn’t alone, the lack of company in this house was slowly getting to me.

“I’m so sorry you had to hear all of that,” Amy spoke, ending her phone call. “It was my mom, and youknow how moms get.”

No, I don’t-because I don’t have a mom.

“Yes, don’t worry about it.” I faked a smile. “But she seems to be worried, is everything okay?”

“Amazing!” Amy nodded. “Because of Marvin, I get to take care of my family-and all of that while heactually meant to kill me.”

“What?”

“T-that’s clearly a joke.” Amy stammered, surprised. So he was supposed to kill her? I didn’t knowwhether to feel relieved that he didn’t or concerned because he was actually capable of doing so.

Relax, Elena. You knew this all along

I had promised myself to stay away from all that cartel crap because it was probably for the best. I hadto

move on.

“What’s with the look on your face? “I heard Marvin’s voice.

With a big smile, I turned around to face him, but that smile had quickly vanished as he covered hischeek. “Oh my god!” I stepped closer.

Curious, I grabbed Marvin’s hand to pull it away from his cheek, revealing a noticeable red bruise.“Who did this to you? What happened?” I asked as Marvin released a chuckle.

This was nothing. He probably had worse, and here I was-acting all concerned. “Actually, never mind-are you alright?”

Amy covered her mouth, trying to hold back her laughter. “Marvin, it’s like you have blush on yourcheek.” She giggled.

“Blush?” Marvin folded his arms. “I’m not blushing?”

Amelia and I shot each other a look, rolling our eyes. “He doesn’t understand, Men.” Amy sighed

dramatically. “Anyway, I’ll give the two of you some space-so if you don’t mind?”

“No, of course not,” Marvin spoke. “You worked hard today, so you can go home if you want.”

Amy frowned. “Elena and I got manicures today, so I don’t know about that.” She nudged his shoulder.“But I’ll see you tomorrow, bye guys!”

“Bye, get home safely and text me!”

“What are you, her mom?” Marvin teased me after Amy left. I ignored his words and moved my hand tothe red bruise on his cheek. “Ow-ow, it hurts so much!” Marvin joked before pressing a kiss on myforehead.

“I thought you were supposed to be this strong and amazing guy.” I pouted. There was definitely moreto it. I could see it in his eyes. He was just doing all of this to ease the tension, but strangely enough, Iwas okay with it.

“My dad did this.” Marvin suddenly spoke.I never asked. I was very cautious with my questionsbecause Marvin promised not to lie anymore-but I had never expected him to become an open book.

“Hold up-you got into a fight…with your dad?”

“No. Victor.” Marvin scoffed. “But that’s unrelated to the bruise because he didn’t get me, of course.

Victor?

“Wait-why did you fight your brother? I wondered. “You shouldn’t fight your brother,” I spoke, remembering Alex. Growing up, we fought a lot, but somehow he ended up being the person I missedthe

most.

I really had to stop with these questions, and I really had to stay out of his business.

Marvin stared into my eyes as he brushed his fingers through my hair and looked at me with a sarcasticsmile on his lips. “He’s not my brother…and he called you a whore, Elena.”

Okay, Screw Victor.

“Oh wow, in that case, I hope you beat him up really well,” I spoke in disbelief. The thing which worriedme the most was probably his family. I knew all of this didn’t look good and that it looked like I was afterMarvin’s money. People had been judging me for ages, but this situation was different. I didn’t wantMarvin to get the wrong image of me.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Marvin asked, worried.

“Nothing.” I took a breath. “I just don’t want to become between you and your family-

“Victor and I never got along, so you don’t have anything to worry about.” Marvin cut me off. “I’m notjust going to stand there and let him disrespect you like that, okay?”novelbin

“Okay.”

“So, what did you do today?” Marvin changed the subject. “Other than your….manicure.”

Embarrassed, I lowered my head. I did not have work today, and I didn’t have anyone to hang out with— which was I dragged poor Amelia out of the house.

“Nothing, just waiting for you.”

A chuckle escaped from Marvin’s lips. “Of course.” He spoke proudly. Seeing the satisfied look on hisface made my day because that meant he wasn’t tired of me. At least, not yet.

“Also, I might’ve accidentally wiped some chocolate on our white bedroom wall,” I confessed.

Marvin shrugged. “No problem.”

“Really?” I sighed. “I’m also very clumsy, so I broke a shelf-and now some of your stuff is on the floor.”

“S-shelf? How do you even….” Marvin blinked before taking a deep breath. “I mean-It’s okay, don’tworry about it.” He smiled. “Break whatever you want. We’ll just replace it.”

How could someone be that kind? He was doing everything to make me feel comfortable, and all Icould give him in return were lies upon lies.He didn’t deserve this.

“So, I finally got that off my chest.”

“Is there more?” Marvin asked, concerned. I shook my head. “No, that was it!”

Marvin shot me a warm smile, but behind that smile, I could clearly see the exhausted expression onhis face. “You must be tired,” I spoke. “How about you take a nap, and I’ll make you some dinner.”

I waited the entire day, just to spend some time with him-but Marvin was a busy person with ademanding family. He did not have a regular job, which I had to learn to accept.

“Elena, we have maids.” Marvin laughed.

“I know, it’s a disaster!” I facepalmed. I did not need anyone to clean the house, fold my clothes, and allthat other stuff. It almost felt like using a cheat in a video game. It felt wrong.

“How about we go out?” Marvin suggested.

“Out?”

“Yes, you’ve been waiting for me this entire time-and I feel bad about it.” Marvin yawned. “I’m not tiredyet.”

“Then why did you yawn?”

“Oh, so now what?” Marvin raised his brow. “Are you telling me I’m not allowed to yawn anymore?”Marvin stared into my eyes while I stared right back at him-waiting for him to crack, but it didn’t happen.“Fine, you win.” I giggled. “Where are we going?”

“Let me think.” Marvin went into deep thoughts.

“How about we go to the place where you walked out on me?”

The place I walked out on him? After everything which had happened between us, I felt so bad. He hadit all planned out while I bailed on him after reading Victoria’s text.I should’ve never listened to her inthe first place. “Are you still not over that?”

“No, the Castillo’s own that place-so that really hurt my pride,” Marvin answered as he reached for my

hand. “And I want us to end our first date properly.”

“Fine, let’s do it.”
