Chapter 290

Marvin

Elena: Good luck

Marvin: For?

Elena: You’re going home today!

Marvin: Already am.

Elena: Oh?

Elena: Why didn’t you tell me!

I guess we were back at the emojis.

“Who’s blowing up your phone like that? Is the job done?”

Victor forced his head over my shoulder, but before he could see anything, I locked my phone. “It’snothing,” I spoke, annoyed. Any other day I would’ve avoided him, but for now, I was still bound to awheelchair.novelbin

It had been two weeks since I’d seen Elena, and other than harassing me with thousandth textmessages, she had often visited me at the hospital to take care of me. The two of us had become closefriends, and I was certain that it was all it was going to be for now.

The tragedy at the wedding was still a sensitive topic, as well as prove that bringing innocent peopleinto my life could be a risk, but I had made an exception for Elena. I would care for her from a distance.

With my discharge from the hospital, it meant that my plan was in action and that we would soonreceive word from the prison. Stabbing Danny Hernandez would not be the first thing on my list, but mydad was right. We had to do everything we could not to make a mockery out our family. Hurting DannyHernandez for what his family had done to Anya, wasn’t nearly enough-but it was enough for now.

“I still think we should’ve let Manny kill him. Just injuring him isn’t cutting it for me. “Victor shared hisunwanted opinion. My dad stood up from his office desk and poured himself a drink. “Marvin made agood suggestion, and I won’t let you question my decision. You’re not the one in charge here.” Hesnarled. “I do not like your tone nowadays.”

“Sorry, dad.”

I held back my laughter as my dad corrected Victor. Surprisingly enough, my dad and I had slowlyrestored our bond and were getting closer day by day, which meant Victor did not hold that muchimportance anymore. “Marvin, I heard you’re going back to your own home.”

“That’s right.” I nodded. “Panther and mom are preparing my return this very moment.”

Although being with my family felt great, I needed my space, and I hadn’t forgotten about Anya’s key. Ifit was truly meant for Tiago, I had to know the context of it first. I didn’t want him to push his feelings.

Unfortunately, Tiago was not in his right state of mind and had locked himself upstairs while my momhad been taking care of him. I hadn’t seen him yet, and I knew I couldn’t walk in with more bad news,so 1 had to give him something.I had to do something for Anya.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Just stay here.” Mario suggested while Victor lowered his head in defeat. “Youcan’t take care of yourself, so I’ll hire a nurse and get you the best care so you can get back on yourfeet-”

“I have Panther. He can help me. Thank you.”

“Excuse me, dad-but I think Marvin might be right.” Victor butted in. “If anything, I think we need to giveMarvin his space.”

Mario went into deep thoughts while I shot Victor a suspicious look. Even though I agreed with hiswords, I knew this man only suggested this for his own benefit. He didn’t want me here because hewouldn’t be able to control this household.

My eyes moved to an important message on my phone

Unknown: Your flowers have been delivered.

“It’s done.” I took a breath. My dad moved to the edge of his seat, and Victor stepped forward. “It’sdone…. so now we can all move on and focus on the business, I spoke, embarrassed. I didn’t want todo any of this because I knew the more I would get into it, the more I would actually enjoy it. All Iwanted was to live in

peace.

“See, that’s where you’re wrong.” My dad picked up his phone from his desk. “This is not over. We’reonly getting started.” He stated. “I will inform the others, and Victor-please make sure all the security isin place.”

“Yes, dad.”

“And you.” My dad turned to me. “Please inform your useless brother that he can stop crying now. It’stime

to move on.”

Stop crying?

How could one stop crying after losing the one person he loved the most?

“Yes, dad.” I sighed, rolling myself out of the office. There was one thing I would never agree with, andthat was the way he treated Tiago. The one thing he needed right now was reassurance and love. Iknew I wasn’t in any state to give it to him, so I thought at least my dad or even Victor would.

I rolled myself to the elevator and made my way to the top floor. Over the past two weeks, I had oftenthought about this moment, but there was no word to describe how I felt. Other than embarrassment, Ididn’t feel anything.

“Marvin, you’re here!” One of the workers spoke. I smiled at the poor woman, thinking about how longshe must’ve been guarding Tiago’s door. “I’m so sorry, ma’am.” I apologized.

The woman grabbed my hands and shook her head. “Please don’t, Tiago is family, and we’re alllooking out for him.”

At least there was someone with a right mind.

My mom, who had also been involved in Tiago’s recovery, couldn’t be here today. She insisted onpreparing my house for my return, and she was a stubborn woman who did things her way. To me, itonly felt like another person who I had taken away from Tiago.

“Come on. I’m sure your brother would like to see you.” The woman opened the door. I used all of mystrength to raise myself out of the wheelchair and entered the room. Other than a bed and a desk, there was nothing.

It looked an awful lot like solitary and brought back some memories. I let the door close behind me andslowly turn to Tiago, who was in a fetal position on the bed, rocking himself back and forth.

His breathing was rapid, and his hair and his clothes were wet from sweat. I knew he wasn’t doing fine, but no one told me it was to this extent.I was responsible for this. I did this.

“T-tiago?”

Tiago ignored the sound of my voice and looked straight ahead. His eyes were glued to the wall, andhe did not have any intentions of communicating with the outside world.

With baby steps, I made my way closer and slowly placed my hand on his shoulder. He gasped andturned around to look at me while I almost gasped in return. His eyes were big, and his cheeks werefull of dry tears. My sweet and energetic brother looked as if he didn’t have any strength to move on.

“M-mom, where is mom?” Tiago whispered. Seeing him like this was enough for me to know that givinghim the key would not help him in any way. He had lost it.

“Mom will be back soon. She’s-”

“Get away from me!”

Tiago smacked away my hand, causing me to lose my balance, and crawled to the corner of the bed.“It’s you. It’s you. It’s you!” He repeated, biting his fingernails.

“Tiago, calm down.”

“It’s you.” Tiago breathed. “Anya is dead because of you. This is all your fault.”

For a second, it felt as if my heart had stopped beating. I blamed myself as well, but hearing it from mybrother’s mouth left a different impact. It was my fault, and that’s why I had no choice but to accept allof his words. I owed it to him.

“You killed Anya. You’re a killer.”
