Chapter 601 Rumors And Gossips

Upon noticing that she was wavering and that there was a chance, Howard felt a wave of joy wash over him, though he kept his happiness hidden from her. Cheerfully, he said, “You go ahead and focus on your work. I’ll handle things here. Since both families are still at the hospital, I’ll go and have a good talk with them. Maverick may have a temper, but he’s clearly a straightforward and decent man. As long as we approach him right, he won’t be that hard to communicate with. Don’t worry too much about it.”

“All right then. If he says anything harsh, please bear with him,” Lysander said as she continued to be

courteous.

Howard, eager to ensure she didn’t change her mind, quickly said, “There’s nothing to worry about. That’s settled then. You go do what you need to do.”

Without letting Lysander hesitate further, he promptly ended the call.

After listening to the busy tone for a moment, Lysander let out a long sigh before placing her phone back where it was,

Nonetheless, faced with a stack of work files piled higher than her open laptop, she had no choice but to bury herself in her work.

With the aid of the capable Monica, her work efficiency had significantly improved compared to the previous days, and she managed to finish everything before the end of the workday.

Lysander didn’t work overtime. Instead, she picked up her bag and said goodbye to Monica, “I have some matters to take care of tonight, so I’ll have to bring the remaining work home.”

Monica, as if anticipating this, said, “What’s most crucial for you now is work–life balance. If you have personal matters, it’s okay to leave the work for later. Rest well tonight, and you’ll likely be more efficient

tomorrow.”

This statement sounded somewhat familiar to Lysander.

However, Lysander didn’t have the time to think too deeply about it. After expressing her thanks, she left the office. On her way out, she encountered several people from the company, but only a few took the initiative to greet her.

Everyone worked in the same office building, so naturally, office gossip spread particularly quickly within the company.

What was whispered among the

women in the restroom was undoubtedly known to others. By now, the stories had likely become even more exaggerated.

Under curious and gossiping gazes, Lysander walked into the elevator calmly, descending to the lobby on the first floor as if nothing had happened.

Someone quietly said to their colleague, “Ms. Thorne just started a few days ago and is already leaving on time. It must be nice to have someone backing you up, but…”

Their words trailed off as Lysander walked away, and she could easily guess the rumors that would follow.

She walked straight ahead without glancing around, only pausing briefly at the punch card machine to clock out like the other employees. Just like any other employee, she methodically clocked out for the day.

The reception desk seemed unusually empty, not a single person was there to greet visitors.

Making a mental note to address this with the logistics department the next day, she took a few steps forward and saw the employees who should have been at the reception desk hiding behind a partition.

These individuals were all young ladies, uniformly tall and attractive, serving as the very face of the company.

At the moment, they were all strategically positioned in a corner where they had a clear view of the street outside. They were gazing at a car parked by the curb, engaged in hushed whispers about something

Lysander followed their gazes, her expression becoming increasingly complex.

She might not recognize everyone in the company, but she knew that car by the curb all too well.

That morning, she had been dropped off in a Rolls–Royce Cullinan.

Why had it changed back to the familiar white Cayenne?

Quietly moving closer to the partition, Lysander took out her phone, intending to message Josiah, asking him not to park so close.

As she drew near, she overheard the receptionists‘ conversation clearly.

“That’s Mr. Guerra’s car, isn’t it? I thought he wouldn’t come by anymore, but here he is again after standing up for someone during a meeting.”

“He and Ms. Thorne must have something going on between them. Maybe the rumors are true.”

“Are you referring to the fiancée rumor or the mistress rumor?”

“Who knows? But he’s been parked out there for so long without coming in or leaving. He must be waiting

for someone.

At a loss, Lysander stopped typing.

She hadn’t expected that even receptionists who held entry–level positions in the company would. recognize Josiah’s car. It was probably too late to warn him now.

The influence of Josiah within Thorne Constructions and Energies was indeed substantial.

Checking the time, Lysander pondered whether to call the new driver, Skylar. Just as she lifted her gaze toward the main entrance while considering if she could try to leave from a different exit, Josiah seemed to have sensed something and stepped out of the car.

The two unexpectedly locked eyes/

Alarm bells rang in Lysander’s mind. She didn’t even have time to give him a hint before she saw Josiah striding toward her. Josiah picked up his pace as he entered through the automatic doors, almost breaking into a jog.

As Josiah made his entrance, all eyes in the lobby shifted to him.

For the ever–calm and composed Josiah to be in such a hurry, they thought something serious must have happened in the com

Josiah ignored the curious glances, stopping in front of Lysander. At first glance, he seemed as composed as ever, but there was a hint of a melting snow–like smile in his eyes..

Lysander knew, without even looking, that the gazes originally fixated on Josiah had undoubtedly shifted

to her now.

“Mr. Guerra.”“”

Josiah felt that Lysander was being distant on purpose, and he even noticed the subtle signals she was giving him to keep his distance. Complying with her unspoken wish, he maintained a certain distance, making sure not to get too close.

“Ms. Thome, just got off work?”

“Yes.”

A few employees happened to pass by just then, which made Lysander nervous. “Is there any matters you need to discuss with me, Mr. Guerra? You could have just sent me an email.”

The employees soon left.

business

Josiah chuckled softly. “Do you really need to be so cautious? You’re Mr. Thorne’s daughter, so it’s only natural for us to know each other. Deliberately avoiding me makes it look a bit fake.”

Lysander let out a sigh. “That’s true.”

“What, did you hear some rumors and gossips today?”

“Yeah.”

“Were they unpleasant?”

“The rumors about me were okay. But the ones about you… are a little unpleasant.”

Josiah was intrigued, raising an eyebrow. “What did they say about me?

“They said…” Lysander paused, pressing her lips together. “Never mind, it’s nothing.”

Josiah crossed his arms, rubbed his chin, and said, “Go ahead, I can handle it.”

Upon hearing this, Lysander didn’t beat around the bush and spoke straightforwardly. “They said you’re at masochist.”

Josiah’s brows furrowed instantly. “What?”
