Chapter 577 From Spouses To Siblings

Lysander’s expression shifted slightly, but with so many people around, she didn’t feel it was appropriate to say anything.

She then asked in a purely professional manner, “Are you so concerned that you decided to sit in on the meeting as well, Mr. Guerra?”

As if he had found his savior, Rowan quickly said, “We feel at ease now that you’re finally here, Mr. Guerra!”

Herbert had been sitting in an awkward position just moments ago, but now he seemed somewhat eager and excited. “Indeed! Now that you’re here, we finally have someone who can make decisions.”

Josiah was the third person constantly resting on Lysander.

Perhaps in order to fit the formal occasion that day, Lysander had changed into a checkered waist blazer paired with a skirt. She was wearing a pair of dark blue heels, and her hair was neatly pinned up at the back of her head, with only a few loose strands of hair hanging on her forehead loosely.

Having worked as a doctor for a long time, she naturally exuded a sense of stern coldness. Today, dressed as she was, she even looked like a successful businesswoman. If the neckline of her blouse wasn’t so low, the look would have been perfect.

Lysander tried not to smoothen her neck of, and casually picked up a thread of hair.

The touch was almost good, dry in her opinion.

She avoided Herbert long enough and finally looked him in the eyes. “What’s wrong?”

Josiah widened his eyes and immediately began to ask with red hands. “Ladies and gentlemen, Thorne Constructions and Energies now has a future leader. Ms. Thorne here will lead the company’s affairs. My personal leave today is personal!”

Rowan immediately said, “You’re even better than Mr. Thorne, aren’t you? Alas, it seems Mr. Thorne can’t stop worrying. After all, the Elms family saved our life but her half life is. The Guerra family and the Thorne family have known each other for many generations. I am aware the company has high hope for mr Guerra.”

“It’s natural that all of us always hope a mother can put trust in his daughter.”

Those words made Josiah frown, but he immediately began to say, “That’s not what Mr. Thorne has always thought, and she. Ms. Thorne is now the latest choice to her for the company. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean she should be involved in the company’s decisions. I could as well think the wages style, they are low. As for the view we should fire it, it would be better if she has a proper new idea. Men are better at operating and conducting business outside, while women should stay at home, doing laundry, cooking dishes, watching kids…”

Upon hearing those words, Lysander’s expression turned gloomy.

Josiah had no idea what went of what was happening, so he noticed her change in expression. Feeling uncomfortable with Rowan’s words, Lysander turned to look at Cobb. “Mr. Cobb!”

“Isn’t this fair and just, though. It’s a simple fact. Look around; aren’t all the top achievers in every field men? Women are too softhearted to perform better, let alone young women. All they do is obsess over soap operas

that they neglect everything else. What else could they possibly do?”

Josiah pursed his lips in displeasure, his gaze slightly downcast.

It was clear that he didn’t like what he heard.

Rowan wanted to say more, but Herbert gently tugged at his arm and reminded him, “Mr. Cobb, Ms. Thorne is, after all, the daughter of Mr. Thorne, and she does have a good relationship with the Guerra family.”

Rowan frowned. He said, “I don’t have any issues with Ms. Thorne. As long as she doesn’t interfere with company matters and behaves like the prominent young lady she is, I’m more than happy to treat her as my niece. After all, I have a strong bond with her father. You don’t look after your son; only daughter?”

“Indeed, Mr. Thorne is technically your son, so he should address you as Mr. Cobb at work, and privately, as Uncle Rowan. She’s here now, we shouldn’t be too harsh on her. Now that Mr. Guerra is here, everything will be resolved. Please, calm down,” Herbert added to Rowan.novelbin

Thanks to Herbert's pacification, Rowan’s attitude had finally improved somewhat.

“I think I understand why Mr. Guerra came here today. The Guerra and Thorne families are very close, so Ms. Thorne could be considered as Mr. Guerra’s sister. It’s only natural for an older brother to visit his younger sister at work.”

Josiah’s expression darkened instantly. “Who said she was my sister?”

Rowan suddenly knew that he couldn’t quite grasp the meaning behind Josiah’s words. Assuming that Josiah was simply trying to keep his distance, Rowan quickly corrected himself by saying, “Of course you two are not siblings! You both have different last names. So does that mean the relationship between the fathers was in the same younger generation? There's no connection at all. Am I right, Mr. Guerra?”

“Mr. Cobb is right. I have no connection with Mr. Guerra whatsoever,” Lysander said.

Josiah’s expression turned increasingly gloomy.

“Since I am not related in any way to them, then I’ll speak my mind. Mr. Guerra, I can’t accept the idea of a young girl daring to interfere with the company’s decisions.”

“Better in the mind with old ideas.”

A thermal jar was placed on the long conference table, its weight neither light nor heavy, interrupting Rowan’s speech.

Rowan hesitated for a moment, peering closely with increased confusion as he asked, “Mr. Guerra, what is this?”

”The lunch I brought her,” Josiah then looked at Lysander as he continued, “Let’s pause the meeting foryour medication.”

Lysander frowned, clearly in disagreement. “The matter isn’t settled yet.”

“Medicine’s on hand by all means, but meals must be eaten in time. Given your current health condition, if you don’t take care of yourself, it might only lead to problems down the road.”

After he finished speaking, Josiah casually directed everyone. “I’m going to take Lysander back to the office

for lunch first. We’ll continue the meeting in half an hour.”

Lysander stopped him. “Josiah, can you please not cause trouble?”

She then tried to signal at him with her eyes.

There are too many people here! What is he trying to do?

Josiah rose to his feet with the thermal jar in hand. He then reached out to take her hand, openly and without any hint of avoidance. His words were simple and direct as he said, “Behave yourself.” The content is on NovelDrama.Org Read the latest chapter there!

“Josiah!”

Lysander strained to pull her hand away, but Josiah’s grip was unyieldingly tight. Each time she exerted force, he would effortlessly draw her closer.

The distance between the two closed in an instant. Subconsciously, Lysander wanted to raise her hand to keep him at bay. But as she lifted her hand, she found it intertwined with his. The content is on NovelDrama.Org Read the latest chapter there!

The hands they held together were conspicuously displayed.

Lysander was on edge, frustration radiating off her. She growled in a voice only the two of them could hear. “What are you doing?”

Josiah leaned in slightly, whispering into her ear, “Haven’t you realized it yet? No matter how well you perform, these old fogeys will always be biased against you. This will only make your work more difficult in the future. It might be better to assert your authority directly. Some people don’t accept the idea of appointing good and able men to office. They only understand the language of power.” The content is on NovelDrama.Org Read the latest chapter there!

“Even so, it should have been Howard who came, as he is the chairman of Thorne Constructions and Energies, not you.”

“Who do you think would be more effective in this current situation? Mr. Thorne, or me?”

Lysander bit silent.

Howard hadn’t been involved in the company's affairs for many years. In fact, he was merely a chairman in name only.

For all these years, it was Josiah who called the shots.

These people had long been accustomed to obeying Josiah. After all, his orders were more effective.

“I understand you’re uncomfortable with relying on my authority to make them obey you, but you can’t deny that this is the quickest way.”
