Chapter 489

The Charming Ex–Wife

Chapter 489 The Right Attitude

Josiah wasn’t upset about having his intentions exposed. “I had no idea this meeting would be so dullbefore I came. I attended the first few years it was held, and it was quite interesting back then. Buthaving not attended for several years, it’s now filled with more and more bureaucratic jargon. If youreally want to know what was discussed in the last two days, I can ask the organizers for thepresentation slides. However, I must warn you. Their slides are even more boring than the meetingitself”

“It couldn’t be more boring than a medical textbook.” Having been a medical student for many years,Lysander didn’t mind plowing through research papers, let alone just a few slides.

However, there was something else that truly left her speechless.

She asked. “Do you have any symptoms?”

Josiah shook his head. “Nope.”

Lysander thought. We were on the same flight and shared the same room, so how come he’s notexperiencing any symptoms? So, the virus really bullies the weak and fears the strong?

Josiah said, “It could be because you’re a doctor. Maybe you’ve offended this virus’s close kin before.Every debt has its debtor. Maybe it’s just seeking revenge on you.

Lysander chuckled. “Well, this virus seems to have quite a sense of honor.”

Josiah leaned in closer, reaching out to touch her forehead. “Why is it still so hot?”novelbin

Lysander tilted her head to avoid his hand. “Stay away from me.”

Josiah frowned in discontent. “What now?”

“I’m fine. I’m just tired.”

Josiah patiently helped her adjust the blanket. You should sleep, then.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll stay here to keep you company.”

Lysander turned away from him, closing her eyes. “Go on with your tasks. I’ll be fine after I get somesleep.

Josiah spoke gently. “You can’t see me even with your eyes closed, so there’s no need to turn yourback on me purposely. Just turn around and lie flat.”

Lysander remained still.

Josiah took immediate action, gently turning her back around by placing his hands on her shoulders.

Lysander was furious. “Are you even going to control how I sleep?”

“You have a needle in your left hand, so lying on your side would press on it.” Josiah gently patted theblanket on her. “Go to sleep.”

Within a few minutes, Lysander had drifted off into a hazy slumber.

She could faintly hear Josiah. It seemed like he was speaking in hushed tones over the phone.

“For now, just send the matters concerning Thorne Constructions and Energies to my email. I’ll take alook when I have some free time. That’s right. Could you help me find a caregiver in Apex City who’sgood at making soup… Yes, she’ll do, Make sure to find some time this weekend to visit Mr. and Mrs.Thorne personally. I won’t be able to make it back. Also, about that Zachary…”

Lysander didn’t quite catch what was said next.

She tried hard to listen, but it seemed the harder she tried, the more futile it became. Eventually, shesuccumbed to the drowsiness.

When she woke up again, the sky had already turned bright.

The sunlight in Apex City was far more brilliant than in Harborbrook, bathing the entire hospital room ina golden glow that made Lysander feel warm and cozy.

Josiah was still there, engaging in a conversation with the nurse.

At the same time, both his hands were holding her IV drip.

“Cough..”

After a night’s sleep. Lysander’s throat was terribly dry.

Josiah turned his head and asked, “Are you awake?”

Lysander furrowed her brows. “Why are you fiddling with the IV drip?”

The nurse chuckled lightly at the side. “It’s not that. Your husband was concerned that the liquid wastoo cold, so he specifically asked me to slow down the drip rate. He’s warming it with his hand.”

Josiah said, annoyed, “There’s no point in explaining anything to her. No matter what I do, she thinksit’s

wrong.”

The nurse’s smile broadened. “All right. Your fever has subsided now. I’ll head out. Ring the bell if youneed anything.”

Josiah expressed his gratitude, and once the nurse had left the room, he walked over to close the doorsecurely.

Lysander sat up, leaning against the head of the bed. She touched the tubing near the injection site, and indeed, it was no longer as cold.

Medical supplies were stored under very stringent conditions. Most liquids were kept in a constant-temperature cold storage. After Josiah’s actions, the liquid wasn’t exactly warm, but at least it wasn’t socold that it was irritating.

“What are you thinking about?”

Lysander said, “I’ve wronged you.”

“It’s okay. I’ve already braced myself for this. Making amends requires the right attitude, after all. Being

wronged once or twice is just part of the course.

Lysander remained silent.

Josiah took a seat beside her. “You must be hungry, right?”

“A liule.”

“You haven’t really eaten much since yesterday. You must be hungry Breakfast will be delivered soon.Let me peel an apple for you first”

Lysander raised an eyebrow. “You know how to peel apples?”

Not far off, several fruit baskets adorned the coffee table, Josiah casually opened one, plucked anapple from within, and began to peel it as he sat on the eilge of the bed.

His fingers were slender yet seemed potent. The way he peeled the apple showed his proficiency, farfrom being a novice. In no time, he had drawn out along, uniform strip of apple skin without a singlebreak.

“Here” He handed her the peeled apple.

Lysander took it, somewhat surprised. “I didn’t expect you to be skilled in this. Did you learn it forLysanne?”

Josiah’s lips moved slightly, but in the end, he chose to remain silent.

That was a form of tacit understanding between adults. If one didn’t deny it, that would implyagreement.

Josiah didn’t want to deceive Lysander, nor did he want to upset her, so his only choice was to remain

silent.

Lysander, on the other hand, didn’t mind at all and started eating the apple.

Josiah said, “Lysander, no one can change what’s happened in the past. You can’t keep blaming me forthings that can no longer be changed.”

Lysander asked nonchalantly, “Who’s blaming you?”

Josiah let out a sigh. “Everything I did for her in the past was merely because I thought she was thesame person from my childhood. You’re right. I learned how to massage and peel apples for her, but Icouldn’t just unlearn these skills.”

Lysander remained rather indifferent. “You learned those skills for her, yet I’m now the one benefitingfrom them. In a way, I should probably be thanking her.”

“You’re still upset.

“No, I’m not.

“Yes, you are.”

Lysander licked her lips. “Yes, I am quite mad. What if I told you now that the reason I agreed to marryyou was because there was someone else I truly liked? His real name is Josian. I studied medicine forhim and worked hard to buy a house, all for him. How would you feel?”

Josiah didn’t respond.

“There are too many issues between us. This is not something that can be resolved simply by peelingan apple. Do you understand what I mean?”

“Yes.” Josiah slowly nodded. “I never expected you to change your mind in a short period of time, nordo I intend to force you.”

“Forcing me will be futile.”

“Yes, I understand. With your stubborn nature, if I were to force you, I suspect we’d both end upunhappy.”

Lysander took another bite of the apple.

The apple was crisp, making a crunching sound when bitten that seemed to affirm his speculation.

Silence filled the air inside the ward for a long while.

It was

s not until Lysander had finished her apple that Josiah reached out to take the core from her. He tossedit into the trash bin by the wall, then pulled out a few tissues to wipe her hands. “Your hand is not veryconvenient with the IV in. Let me do it.”
