Chapter 449 Short Of Clothes

Observing him, Lysander deduced he wasn’t really intending to flout the law.

She took a glance at the few people outside earlier. Their clothing seemed identical, giving off theimpression they were workers.

“Hurry up,” urged Josiah.

Lysander entered her room and found a loose–fitting sports jacket, which she draped over herself likeat cloak

Josiah was finally satisfied.

His gaze unintentionally fell upon his blazer she had casually draped over the back of the chair.

Lysander said, “Your clothes are quite expensive, so I didn’t dare to wash them with water. I’ll takethem to the dry cleaners this afternoon and return them to you once they’re clean.”

With a stoic expression, Josiah casually replied, “I’ll leave it here with you for now.”

“Are you not going to wear it?”

“Do I look like I’m short of clothes?”

Lysander didn’t argue with him and said, “But it’s taking up space in my house.”

Josiah said, “Then hang it on the balcony.”

“Then it’ll take up space on my drying rack.”

Suddenly, Lysander remembered what the police had told her earlier that day–she could hang men’sclothing on the balcony.

Is that what he meant?

Noticing the realization in her gaze, Josiah didn’t elaborate further and asked, “Where’s yournightgown?”

“I’ve taken it off to discard it. Why?”

*Nothing. I just noticed the recent drastic change in your clothing style. I’ve never seen you wear sucha sexy nightgown before.”

Sery?

“That was just an ordinary nightgown. There are only so many styles for a woman’s nightgown, afterall.”

Josiah’s expression darkened even more, and his tone became sarcastic as he jabbed again, “Yourpajamas used to be two–piece sets, with long sleeves and long pants. Did you buy it especially forAdrian?”

Lysander was at a loss for words. “I bought this at the supermarket after I returned to the country. Theother styles weren’t pure cotton, only this one was, so I bought it. What does it have to do with him? Also, didn’t you say yesterday that both you and he couldn’t come in?”

sc*m from last night do this? Where else are you hurt? How did it get so bad?”

Lysander turned away. “It’s just a bruise; it’ll heal on its own after a while.”

Josiah’s gaze, however, kept lingering on her neck.

Lysander noticed him staring at her neck and pulled her jacket higher uneasily.

Josiah, vexed, pulled something out of his pocket and tossed it to her. “Here, this is for you.”

Instinctively, Lysander caught it and took a look. “Analgesic balm?”

.34%

Josiah’s frown faded as he quickly explained before she could ask, “Yeah. I injured my wrist a whileback, and this was useful. You should give it a try too.”

Sbe accepted his kindness, albeit reluctantly. “All right then, thank you.”

Josiah didn’t mind her reluctance and glanced in the direction of the door. “They’re all men. Why don’tyou stay in your room for a bit? I’ve brought them here to fix the windows, and while they’re at it, they’llreplace your lock too.”

He was naturally well–prepared.

So those large items are actually raw materials for the windows.

Lysander wasn’t particularly surprised by this, though she was a bit puzzled. “How did you know thesize of my floor–to–ceiling window?”

Josiah remained expressionless. “Both yours and mine are of the same size. I had them measure it atmy place and custom–made the glass.”

His explanation made perfect sense.

Josiah noticed Lysander’s hesitation and added nonchalantly, “I broke your window last night, so it’sonly right that I fix it for you. Hurry up. The workers are waiting outside. I have other plans after this.”

“Okay.” Not wanting to waste their time, Lysander nodded and retreated into her bedroom.

The clamor in the living room went on for quite some time before it ceased. They were likelydismantling the deformed window frames.

Lysander took out her phone and saw several messages from Daphne, asking about her situation.

She responded to the messages, reassuring Daphne that there was no need to worry.

Once they finished their conversation, the noise from outside had ceased for quite some time. Thewindow replacement had likely been completed.

The rhythmic patter of footsteps echoed from outside the bedroom door.

Josiah knocked on the door. “It’s done. Come out and take a look.”

Lysander had assumed that he simply brought workers to replace the floor–to–ceiling windows, butwhat she saw caught her off guard.

The balcony windows had essentially been overhauled. It was evident that the glass was now severaltimes. thicker than before. Moreover, an additional layer of security mesh had been added outside, making it seem as impregnable as a fortress.

“Don’t you

think this is too much?” She walked over and carefully felt the material. These anti–theft windows, fromframe to rod, seemed to be entirely made of alloy, looking exceptionally sturdy.

Josiah casually stated, “Not at all. All high–end residences are equipped whh anti–theft windows now. There’s a remote control here that can be used to roll it up or down. It won’t affect the lighting in yourhouse or hinder you from drying your clothes.”

Lysander was not worried about that. Hesitating to speak at first, she eventually asked after somecontemplation. “How much did you spend on all these things?”

Josiah’s gaze suddenly turned frosty. “What do you mean?”

Lysander remained composed, “I don’t want you to spend too much. You broke the window last night tosave me, so naturally, I should be the one to cover the cost of the replacement.”

She then glanced at the group of workers, adding. “And there’s also the labor fee.”

Josiah chuckled. “If the person who came to help you repair your window today was Adrian, would youstill insist on paying him?”

Lysander remained silent and pondered over this issue. What would I have done if it was Adrian whocame? I’d decline his offer to help and rather do everything myself than trouble him again.

Seeing her remain silent, Josiah thought she was hesitating and scoffed, amused by his ownpresumptuousness.

Lysander grew annoyed. “What are you scoffing at?”

A smirk of sarcasm appeared on Josiah’s face as he said, “Your best friend’s family is in debt, and yourown. family is in a hurry to make the house payment. Are you sure you still have money to give me?”

He was well aware of Lysander’s predicament, so he deliberately said, “These materials aren’t cheap, and I hired only the best workers.”

Lysander would rather be ridiculed by him than owe him another favor. Hearing that, she calmed downand said, “I might not have enough cash on hand, but there’s always another option.”novelbin

With that, she pulled out her phone and opened up the payment app.

Josiah took a step forward, staring straight into her bright eyes. He wore a complex expression, and hiswords were harsh. “If you’re so short of money, have you ever thought about asking Adrian for some? The Sutton family isn’t lacking in resources. I’m sure he’ll give you if you ask. A few million meansnothing to

him.”

Lysander looked back at him calmly, raising a logical counter–question. “I share no familial or personalties with Adrian. We were former colleagues at best. Why would he lend me money?”

“Trust me. I understand men/better than you do. A man is willing to do anything for the woman helikes,” Josiah said with an icy tone.
