Chapter 2155

The doctor emerged from the examination room and addressed Estelle, “The patient is fine; it's justa viral cold with an upper respiratory infection that caused the fever.”

Estelle breathed a sigh of relief, “Okay, thank you, doctor.”

Jonathan had made a call, and soon, the hospital had arranged a VIP room and the best caregiverfor them.

Sophia hadn't eaten anything in the evening and, weakened by her illness, fell asleep as soon asthe IV drip started.

The caregiver watched over Sophia inside, while Estelle and the others waited outside.

Jason said to Estelle, “You and Mr. Lamont should head back. I’ll stay here.”

He had thought it over. Seeing Sophia as his sister, there was nothing wrong with him taking care ofher. If Robin was going to break up with Sophia over something so trivial, then he wasn’t worth hertrust.

Robin's behavior today had been a huge letdown.novelbin

Estelle turned to Jonathan, “You go back. Jason and I will stay here.”

Jonathan offered a faint smile, “What’s the difference if two or three of us stay? Let’s all stay heretonight.”

Jason, his expression somber, spoke up, “I appreciate it, Mr. Lamont.”

“We’re family, no thanks needed,” Jonathan nodded.

They all waited until Sophia’s fever subsided with the IV and she seemed a bit more comfortable.

Estelle stepped out from the room and said to Jason, “I asked the caregiver to take a break. Gokeep Sophia company.”

She knew what was on Jason's mind, and this seemed like the only moment when he could watchover her without restraint.

Jason paused for a moment before standing up, “Alright, I’ll stay with her. You and Mr. Lamontshould get some rest.”

“Okay,” Estelle nodded.

As Jason entered the room, Estelle followed, quietly closing the door behind them.

Sophia lay on the hospital bed, sound asleep with a pale, yet fever-free face.

Jason sat down on the chair beside her bed, silently watching over her. A bitter sorrow welled upwithin him, making his chest feel tight and sore.

Back when they were in school, he had watched over her just like this, but back then, he had everyright to be her guardian. Now, he had to maintain a proper distance, for she belonged to someoneelse.

And the irony was that the man who had her now didn't seem to cherish her enough, which onlyadded to Jason's pain.

Jason held her hand and pressed it against his forehead; her skin was still a bit too warm, especially at the palm. The heat against his skin failed to warm his chilled heart.

This girl he treasured so much, he'd guarded his feelings carefully, afraid of burdening her, afraid ofmaking her uncomfortable.

He could let her go, but only if she was truly happy.

Jonathan leaned back on the couch, making Estelle more comfortable in his arms, his voice softand reassuring,

“Try to get some rest. With Jason here, Sophia will be fine.”

Estelle, nestled against his chest, whispered back, “I can’t sleep.”

“Does Jason love Sophia that much?” Jonathan asked.

“Yes,” Estelle nodded.

“Jason and Sophia grew up together, and with Jason being such a catch, why would Sophia fall forsomeone like Robin?” Jonathan wondered.

“I heard from Harriet that Sophia and Robin met during a charity event organized by the studentcouncil. Robin, coming from a modest background, faced exclusion by some wealthy students. Yethe held his ground with dignity and grace. Unlike those rich kids who joined the event just to padtheir resumes, he was genuinely committed and even spent his summer earnings on books forchildren in impoverished areas. All that really struck a chord with Sophia.”

“From then on, Sophia began to notice Robin, who, on his part, showed no interest in dating andfocused solely on his studies. That just made him stand out even more to her.”

“Eventually, Robin went abroad to study and ended up becoming a role model for all the teachersand alumni. That just deepened Sophia's feelings for him.”

Jonathan nodded, “Young love can be like that, can’t it? A single flutter of the heart and you’rehooked.”

Estelle asked, “I didn't know about Robin before, and I don't understand him. You've met him a fewtimes; what do you think of him?”

Jonathan summed it up succinctly,

“Opportunistic.”
