Chapter 2123

"Looks can't phase me, darling!" Jonathan pulled her into his embrace, "I know today was anaccident, but should there be a next time, I really hope you don't just throw yourself into the fray."

What if it was a bomb, what if...

Estelle rested her head on his shoulder, "I wasn't thinking too much. Antonia was after me, I couldn'tlet her drag Evelyn into this."

"That idiot Antonia, fully aware of why the Crawley clan has hit rock bottom, still has the nerve tocling to you!" Jonathan's eyes turned icy, "She's just afraid I've forgotten about her. Good that sheshowed up, can't afford to let her slip away."

Estelle didn't take Antonia seriously, "Just kick her out of J City, no need to dirty your hands for her."

"I'll handle it," Jonathan reassured her with a kiss on her cheek, "Let's get some sleep."

Estelle lay down, and Jonathan followed suit, gently blowing on the back of her hand before drawingher close.

They exchanged a few more words before Estelle closed her eyes, her breathing soon even andshallow.

Jonathan stayed wrapped around her for a while longer before he got up and left the room.

Closing the bedroom door behind him, he took his cellphone out to the living room balcony.

The call connected quickly, and Millard was on the line, "Mr. Lamont."

"Speak."

"Before Cliff was locked up, he made quite the effort to save Antonia. Left her a chunk of change toget her protection and out of the country. Didn't expect Antonia wouldn't leave. She's been hidingfrom our eyes in J City for three days now, looking to get revenge on Ms. Macclain."

Jonathan's expression darkened, "You all couldn't keep an eye on one woman?"

Millard sounded ashamed, "That was my oversight."

His men had seen Antonia board a plane, and while he was watching the rest of the Crawley familyin B City, planning to wipe them out before dealing with Antonia, she pulled a fast one. Instead offleeing, she came to J City.

Jonathan's voice turned frosty, "Well, now that she's here, don't let her leave."

Millard asked, "Keep her locked up at the station?"

Jonathan chuckled coldly, "The station? Does she deserve that? Tomorrow, take her to thepsychiatric hospital, find her a bed. She's gone mad, after all. Let her spend the rest of her daysthere, never to be seen again."

"Right away, I'll take care of it first thing tomorrow."

"Mhm."

Jonathan hung up, staring into the deep night, his eyes as dark and unforgiving.

The next morning.

Estelle was still asleep when her phone suddenly rang. Jonathan silenced it and took the calloutside.

"Estelle, it's your father." Bennett's voice came through.

Jonathan's face remained impassive, "This is Jonathan."

Bennett fell silent for a moment.

"What do you want with Ella?" Jonathan asked.

Bennett's voice took on a deferential tone, "Mr. Lamont, I'd like to see Estelle."

"She doesn't want to see you."

"I am, after all, her father."

Jonathan sneered, "Aren't you the stepfather?"

Bennett was left speechless with shame and could only stammer after a pause, "I'm a bastard, I'vewronged Estelle by conspiring against her with outsiders, I'm not worthy."

Jonathan grew impatient, "Save these words for when you and Mrs. Simone analyze the downfall ofthe Macclain family."

Bennett's voice broke, "My wife's still in the hospital, all our assets and bank accounts have beenfrozen. We don't have a penny to our name, and since we've offended you, no one will lend usmoney. We're truly at the end of our rope."

Jonathan's tone remained flat, "If you're looking to commiserate, don't bother Ella."

"I'm really out of options, that's the only reason I'm turning to Estelle. If we don't pay up, the hospitalwill kick us out. If it will make you feel better, I'll come over and apologize to Estelle myself. I'll kneelif I have to, just please, ask her to save her mother!" Bennett pleaded despairingly.novelbin
