Chapter 1756

Chapter 1756

Two days later, Shawn was discharged from the hospital. Bard had come especially to help Shawn with

the discharge procedures, and then accompanied him to a rehab center for further recuperation.

Upon entering the rehab center, Emily furrowed her brows slightly.

This rehab center, touted as the best in J City, was located in a picturesque suburb thirty kilometers

south of the downtown. It had its own medical team, and its in-house facilities were top-notch and

complete.

The manager and nursing workers were already waiting outside to welcome them. As one nursing

worker pushed Shawn's wheelchair, she introduced Emily to the rehab center.

“Our rehab center is surrounded by forests and wetlands, providing us with an abundance of negative

oxygen ions in the air, as much as 16000."

“We have a water park over there, and a movie theater, a sports center, a library, and many other

recreational facilities."

“Each nursing worker here is a graduate from a professional medical school and has more than three

years of experience in taking care of the elderly and patients."

The group walked along a lush, green path to the residential area, which looked more like a cluster of

villas.

The one-bedroom suite was equipped with smart home facilities which made it comfortable and

convenient. It also came with an exclusive nursing worker and three meals a day prepared by a

professional dietitian.

Emily was astounded by the place and asked Bard, “This place must cost a lot, right?"

Bard laughed and replied, “Don't worry, Ms. Sullivan. Our company will bear all the costs."

Emily quickly clarified, “It's not what I mean. I appreciate your company's responsible attitude, but

there's no need to stay in such a lavish rehab center."

“It's not as expensive as you think, Ms. Sullivan. Our boss has shares in this rehab center. So, anyone

from our company who gets injured is treated here,” Bard explained.

Emily nodded in understanding. What a company!

After settling Shawn in, Emily prepared to leave with Bard.

“Emily!” Shawn called out from his wheelchair.novelbin

This was the first time Shawn had spoken to Emily in days.

Emily paused but didn’t turn around.

Seeing that they seemed to have something to discuss, Bard tactfully excused himself and closed the

door behind him.

“Emily, I'm sorry!” Shawn began, his head lowered in shame, “I feel shamed to talk to you."

"Then don't. There's nothing to talk about!"

Emily's voice was icy. Without glancing at Shawn, she walked out the door.

Shawn watched Emily's retreating figure, a sob escaping his throat, his face streaked with tears.

The next day, Emily left work early in the afternoon and took Kya to the supermarket.

She added two tubs of ice cream to their cart, grinning, “One for you and one for Estelle."

Kya, seated in the shopping cart and swinging her little legs, piped up with her adorable voice,

“Jonathan doesn't allow Estelle to eat ice cream."

Emily winked at her, “We'll sneak it to her!"

Kya giggled delightfully at the prospect.

They also bought some everyday items before leaving the supermarket to head home.

As they entered their apartment complex, laughing and chatting, a woman in a hat, scarf, and mask

watched them from the corner of a wall, her eyes filled with astonishment.

She looked around before sneaking away like a thief.

As dusk fell, Gina was returning home from the grocery store when she received a call from an

unknown number. She answered, “Hello?"

"Gina, it's me!” came a woman's voice.

Gina paused, “Noreen, is that you? Where are you?"
