Chapter 1589

Chapter 1589

“Nope!” Charlie retorted coldly. “The minute you said you didn’t like me, we had nothing left to chat

about! You owe me, just pay me back. What you promised me, just do it. You don’t need to apologize to

me, nor bring up our past. Between us, it’s just debts, no feelings.”

A pang of pain hit Emily’s heart, tears threatening to spill. She tried hard to keep it together, not wanting

to show weakness in front of him.

Charlie was right. There were no feelings between them, just the debt she owed him. Once she paid

him back and his anger faded, she would be free. Charlie leaned back on the couch, eyes closed, not

sparing her another glance,

Emily said nothing more, waiting in silence.

Half an hour later, everyone in the chat group Betty created confirmed they were home.

Emily put away her phone, I’m leaving!”

Charlie opened his eyes and stood up. “I’ll walk you out!”

I can take a cab, Emily replied instantly.

Charlie turned to look at her, his face sullen, “Why are you so jumpy? You can’t wait to cut ties with me,

right?”

Emily kept her head down, not uttering a word.

A surge of anger welled up in Charlie, and he said coldly. “I’ll just walk you to the front door. I won’t go

up!”

Then he strode out of the room.

Emily took a deep breath and followed him out.

Since Charlie had been drinking, he let Kent do the driving

They both sat in the back. Charlie glanced at Emily looking out the window, trying to suppress his

anger. He resented Emily’s naivety as much as he resented himself. novelbin

The ride was quiet. They stopped downstairs at the Sunset Ridge Building. Emily said a quick thanks

and got out of the car.

“Emily”

Emily stopped in her tracks and turned, looking at Charlie who had stepped out of the car

Under the thick night sky, Charlie’s eyes were deep and dark. He said in a low voice, “I’ll give you a

chance to take back what you said earlier. Even if you don’t like me right now, we can start over. I won’t

push you anymore.”

“No need!” Emily cut him off, her gaze steady, “As we agreed, just let me go when the three months are

up”

It felt like a slap in the face for Charlie. The tenderness in his heart vanished once again, leaving him

cold and heavy-hearted, “Do you like Wilson?”

it’s none of your business,” Emily replied indifferently, and then she turned and walked away without

looking back.

Charlie watched Emily’s retreating figure, his heart felt as if it was filled with ice, freezing to its core.

After a while, he turned and got back into the car. Kent opened the door for him. Seeing Charlie’s

gloomy face, Kent dared not say a word.

The car drove away. Shawn came out with Kya, “Was that man who just left someone who used to visit

your mom often?”

Kya blinked, “It’s dark, I couldn’t see clearly”

Shawn chuckled, pinching her small nose, “You’re just like your mom, a bit crafty but not truly clever.”

Kya blinked her big eyes, “Grandpa, what’s “crafty and what’s clever’?”

“Thinking you’re clever when you’re not is ignorance!” Shawn laughed, “If your mom was really clever,

she’d latch onto that man just now. Then she could live a wealthy life, have everything she ever

wanted, and wouldn’t need to struggle with raising you”

Kya seemed not to fully understand and didn’t say anything.

Shawn’s phone suddenly rang, and he picked it up, “Emily, you’re back? Kya and are at the

playground, alright, we’ll head back now!”

After hanging up the phone, Shawn told Kya, “Don’t tell your mom we saw her here when we get

home”

“Why?” Kya asked innocently

Because she doesn’t want us to see, so well pretend we didn’t” Shawn patted her hand. In short, we’re

doing it for your mom’s sake”

“Oh Kya nodded
