Chapter 1580

Chapter 1580

Shawn stepped out of the kitchen, grinning, “Emily, Ms. Macclain, chow’s up.”

Estelle returned a nod, indicating Emily to start eating without saying much more.

During the meal, Shawn was all over the place, constantly encouraging Estelle to have more.

Shawn used to be a master chef at a five-star hotel, so his dishes were nothing short of

mouthwatering.

After hanging out with Shawn for two days, Kya was quite smitten with him, especially his cooking.

Kya chatted with Emily about the day’s happenings while eating, the atmosphere wasn’t awkward at

all.

After dinner, Emily didn’t let Shawn do the dishes. Instead, she started to clear the table herself with

Estelle helping out.

Shawn felt bad, “Ms. Macclain, you’re our guest. We can’t have you doing this.” novelbin

Estelle waved it off with a laugh, “I live just upstairs and come down to Emily’s for dinner all the time.

Don’t treat me like a guest.”

Shawn was pleased, “Emily might seem easygoing, but she’s actually quite stubborn. You guys should

help each other out.”

Emily frowned, “You don’t need to worry about us. Go check on Kya.”

“Alright, I’ll go see Kya.” Shawn was slightly intimidated by Emily and quickly left.

After a while, Shawn came back carrying Kya and said to Emily, “Emily, you chat with Ms. Macclain. I’ll

take Kya out for a bit.”

Emily cautioned, “Don’t go too far.”

“No worries!” Shawn, holding a Barbie doll, coaxed Kya and left.

While Emily was doing the dishes, Estelle was drying and putting them away.

“Estelle, I’ve decided to break up with Charlie,” Emily said quietly.

“Because of your father?” Estelle guessed.

Emily paused, then said somberly, “Not just because of my dad. I was considering breaking up with

Charlie even before my Dad showed up. His arrival just solidified my decision.”

Estelle was confused, “Why?”

Emily told her about what she heard Mrs. James say at Amiee’s engagement party, a bitter smile on

her face, “There’s no future for us. If I continue this relationship, it will only bring more trouble, so I

decided to end it.”

you

Estelle said, “Your father seems like a good guy. He’s nice to Kya and cares about you. Maybe he’s not

as bad as

Emily snorted coldly, slowly shaking her head, “He won’t change. He’s made many promises, but never

fulfilled one. The year my brother went to college, he took all the money at home to gamble and only

came back when he lost it all. My mom cried all night. She held a knife to her throat and asked him if

there was still enough money for Elliott to finish college.”

“He knelt down, tears streaming down his face. He said he regretted it and would never gamble again.

If he did, he’d cut off his own hand. My mom borrowed money from my uncle for my brother to go to

college, but my dad didn’t stop gambling. A month later, he went to my uncle to borrow money, claiming

my brother had some problems at school and needed money urgently. After getting the money, he

gambled again and didn’t come home for a week. One day, my aunt came to our house to collect the

debt. That was when my mom and I found out what happened. My aunt stood at our door, her words

sharp, but we could do nothing but listen and bear her insults.”
