Chapter 1553

Waving adorably, Kya said, "See you tomorrow, Auntie!"

At dinner time, Estelle and Jonathan weren't around, so Emily cooked just for her and Kya.

After dinner, they played games, took baths, and listened to bedtime stories, just like any other night.

Except tonight Charlie was missing, which made them feel something was off. Kya kept asking,

"Where's Uncle Charlie?"

"It's already dark; why isn't Uncle Charlie home yet?"

When it was time for bed, Charlie texted Emily, [Did Kya ask about me?]

Looking at Kya with her big round eyes on the bed, Emily couldn't help but chuckle. [Yeah, she asked

about you.]

Charlie texted again, [What about you? Do you miss me?] novelbin

Emily's heartbeat accelerated, but she didn't know how to respond.

Kya immediately asked Emily, "Is that a message from Uncle Charlie?"

"Yes, he’s really busy right now; he can't come to tuck you in tonight. I'll tell you a story." Emily put

down her phone, lay on the bed, and picked up a picture book.

Ever since Charlie started living here, he had been the one to tuck Kya in every night. Kya was a bit

upset that he didn't come today. "Mom's stories aren't as good as Uncle's."

Emily's voice faltered. She gently patted Kya's head and softly said, "Kya, you can't rely too much on

him, okay?"

Her voice was gentle, as if she were reasoning with Kya but also reminding herself not to rely too much

on him.

Kya's eyes were full of childlike innocence, she only vaguely understood.

She might not yet understand what reliance was.

Emily didn't say much, then she just continued with the story.

Half an hour later, Kya fell asleep. Emily went to the living room to read. The more she dealt with the

James family's affairs, the more she realized her knowledge was limited. So she bought some

materials and used her night time to enrich herself.

When it was nearly eleven, Emily put down her book, stretched lazily, and prepared to go to bed.

At this hour, Charlie probably wouldn't come back.

Just as she was about to go back to her room, her phone on the coffee table suddenly rang. She

looked, it was a call from her sister-in-law, Bonnie Ferber.

It was already quite late, Bonnie must have something urgent to call in a hurry. Emily picked up the

phone and asked, "What's up, Bonnie?"

Bonnie's voice sounded anxious. "Emily, can you check on your brother?"

Emily was taken aback. "What's wrong with my brother? Calm down, tell me slowly!"

"Well, the thing is," Bonnie steadied her voice and explained, "your brother had an engagement tonight,

he told me he wasn't feeling well when we were on the phone, then he turned off his phone. I'm on a

business trip in B City and can't rush back to take care of him. Can you help me check on your

brother?"

Emily immediately replied, "Sure, I'm on my way. Where is he?"

"At The Velvet Spring Hotel." Bonnie said, "Emily, I know it's inconvenient for you with the baby, but my

mother is not well. I can only ask for your help; really, thank you!"

"We're family; helping each other is what we should do. I'm heading over now. I'll call you back as soon

as I find my brother."

"Alright, I'll wait for your call."

Emily hung up the phone and went back to her room to change clothes. She took this opportunity to

send a message to Estelle, asking if she was already asleep and if she could look after Kya.

By the time she was ready to leave, Estelle had arrived. Estelle knew she was going to find Elliott, so

she reassured her, "Go ahead! Don't worry about things at home. I'll stay with Kya. If anything

happens, remember to call me."

"Okay." After Emily responded, she left the house in a hurry.
