Jonathan lit a cigarette and glanced at Bennett again, a sneer hiding in his eyes. “Is Estelle your
adopted daughter?”
A chill ran down Bennett’s spine. Before he could say anything, Simone jumped in. “Yes, Estelle is a
poor college student that we sponsor. After she came to J City to go to college, we took her in as our
goddaughter. But her study habits aren’t very good, spends most of her time playing video games.”
With a cold sweat rising from his back, Bennett gently tugged at Simone, gesturing for her to speak
less. Jonathan blew out a puff of smoke, his gaze blurred. “Does Mrs. Macclain dislike her that much?”
Simone’s eyes flashed, “Not hate, just hope she can work harder, don’t let down our goodwill.”
“Goodwill? What goodwill do you have towards her? You didn’t pay for her college. You don’t knownovelbin

calm, but his words were so cold it sent shivers.down people’s spines.
Bennett was so scared he dared not breathe. “Mr. Lamont is right!”
Jonathan swept his gaze over Bennett and Simone. “Remember what you said today. Estelle is your
adopted daughter and has nothing to do with you. Carmella is your biological daughter.”
Simone was startled, not understanding what Jonathan meant. Terrence glared at Bennett and Simone,
trying to salvage the situation, but Jonathan. didn’t give him the chance. He took out his phone, dialed
a number, and his tone suddenly softened. “Are you done?”
“Almost! Estelle and Sallie were discussing design drafts on the other end.
Jonathan smiled. “I’m coming to find you.”
Looking at Jonathan’s smile, Carmella shivered. This normally aloof man looked so good when he
smiled. Everyone was guessing who Jonathan was calling. His tone was so gentle, even a bit
flattering.
After hanging up, Jonathan stood up without saying goodbye to anyone and headed towards Estelle.
Everyone was staring at his back, looking shocked.
Sallie was the first to see Jonathan coming towards them. She was stunned for a moment, then gently
kicked Estelle under the table. “Estelle!”
Estelle turned her head and gave the man a small smile. Sallie looked at Estelle in surprise because
she had never seen her smile so happily.
Jonathan nodded slightly to Sallie, then walked over to Estelle, bent down, and said softly with a smile,
“Ready to go home? Honey.”
Sallie’s eyes were wide open.
