Chapter 142

Chapter 142

Estelle lowered her gaze and smiled faintly, “Well, you still have exams in half a month. What am I

going to do after that?” Henson let out a silent sigh of relief, but still remarked, “Even when school

starts, I’ll still have to see you every weekend!”

Estelle didn’t say anything. She really wanted to quit after teaching this semester. She hadn’t seen

Jonathan these past few times she came to the Lamont family.

She thought maybe Jonathan didn’t want to see her, so he deliberately avoided the times when she

came.

If that was the case, there’s no point in being enemies.

Henson started answering the questions on the exam papers and said casually, “Are you gonna show

my paper to my uncle today? I advise you not to.”

“Why?” Estelle asked.

While writing, Henson said, “My uncle hasn’t been in a good mood these days. I don’t even dare to talk

to him. It’s better for you to keep your distance.”

Estelle’s eyes flashed, and she asked softly, “What happened?”

Henson shook his head, “Who knows? He’s been in a bad mood lately, going out early and coming

back late. Yesterday, he scolded someone from the company on the phone and got really angry. I

haven’t seen him lose his temper like that in a long time!”

Estelle said, “It must be something with the company. It might be solved in a few days.”

Henson didn’t say anything else and focused on answering the questions.

That night, Jonathan came back earlier than usual, entering the door before nine o’clock.

The servant wanted to ask him if he had finished his dinner but seeing his gloomy face, they didn’t dare

and just went back to the kitchen to cook.

Jonathan went up to the third floor and answered a phone call as he opened the door and walked in. novelbin

“Where are you?” Charlie asked.

“I’m home. You guys have fun!” Jonathan didn’t turn on the light, and his voice sounded even lower in

the dark.

Charlie chuckled, “I heard you blew up at the company again today. Mr. Chuck specifically called me to

find out what happened. I told him men also have a few days in a month when they’re down and lost,

so they don’t have to worry!”

Jonathan snorted with a sarcastic laugh, “You talk more, and I’ll definitely make you feel lost!”

“No!” Charlie pleaded, “I’m scared of you! By the way, there’s something I need to tell you. At the

dinner party last night, one of the people from Manley’s group got drunk and said that Manley played a

trick on a young girl a few days ago. He told her it was his girlfriend’s birthday and asked her to order a

cake and send it, even having someone write ‘I love you‘ on it for his confession. Turns out it was his

own birthday.”

Jonathan’s hand, which was in the process of adjusting his tie, froze mid–action, and his eyes

narrowed.

Charlie continued, “That must be the girl beside you, right? So you wronged her; she was also tricked

by Manley. Stop being mad at her!” Jonathan’s eyes flashed, and he casually observed as if the

moonlight had fallen on the dark lake, causing a faint ripple. He took off his tie and threw it on the sofa,

snorting, “It’s her own stupidity. If she stayed away from that rotten fish, she wouldn’t have this mess!”

Charlie heard something different in his tone, laughing lightly, “That girl looks so innocent. She can’t

compete with that foxy Manley in playing tricks! And you’re really mad at her?”

Jonathan leaned against the back of the sofa, looking at the moonlight outside the window without

speaking.

Charlie’s voice became softer, and he slowly asked, “Are you with that girl because of Yvonne?”

Jonathan said coldly, “No.”

“That’s good!” Charlie laughed, “You should rest early; I’m hanging up!”

“Okay!”

Jonathan set aside the phone and fixed his gaze on the steady stream of lights outside, remaining

motionless for a considerable period of time. Eventually, a knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. In

a soft voice, he responded, “Come in.”

The door opened, and Henson’s voice came, Jonathan? Why didn’t you turn on the light?”

With a “click,” the study’s light came on, and Jonathan turned his head, “What’s up?”

Henson noticed a slight improvement in Jonathan’s expression compared to the past few days,

emboldening him to take a step forward. “This is the paper Ms. Macclain gave me today. Can you take

a photo and show it to my dad? Also, could you ask him when

he’ll be back?” he requested.
