Frowning, Elliott asked, “Who told you this?”
“My aunt,” Bonnie said. “Her husband works at South Hospital and knows Dr. Martin My father was

Elliott quickly apologized, “I didn’t mean to fool you. Dr. Martin has been chasing Emily, but she hasn’t
said yes.”

Elliott’s eyes welled up with tears. He quickly looked away.
On the other end of the phone, Bonnie pressed, “Elliott, it’s my wedding day. Are you turning me
down?”
Emily looked at Elliott and said, “Elliott, you can’t call off the wedding. Just agree. Kya is still young,
she’s not really fit for the role.”
Elliott took a deep breath, then turned and said to Bonnie, “Alright, Kya won’t be the flower girl. Let the
Ferber kids take over.”
Bonnie finally grunted in satisfaction, “And don’t forget to bring gifts for the Ferber kids when you come.
Each gift can’t be less than a hundred dollars? “Sure thing!” Elliott whispered in response and hung up.
He hated that he was powerless to protect Emily and Kya, despite Emily being the one he cared about
the most.
