Jonathan shot Charlie a look but didn’t say a word.
Estelle was about to win, her hand of cards dwindling.
Emily took control of the game, playing her cards with gusto.
But Charlie and Emily’s lead was short-lived. Jonathan managed to coax Charlie into showing his
cards.
Charlie scoffed, “Jonathan, are you so keen on getting Estelle to play her cards that you don’t care
about winning or losing?”
Jonathan just smiled serenely and said, “As long as she wins, I’m happy”
“Well, then!” Charlie was lost for words.
In no time, Estelle was out of cards. Her eyes sparkled like stars as she applauded Jonathan.
They were perfectly in sync. As soon as she lifted her hand, Jonathan raised his arm, their palms
meeting with a crisp sound.
Emily watched enviously.
This was what love looked like!
Charlie furrowed his brow at Emily and said, “Don’t worry, I won’t let you lose!”

They all became more and more enthusiastic as they played. Time flew by, and before they knew it,
Kya had fallen asleep in Charlie’s arms. He carried her to the master bedroom, tucked her in, and then
continued playing.
By eleven o’clock, a bottle of wine was almost empty, with Charlie having consumed most of it.
Emily, feeling guilty for being a drag on Charlie, attempted to grab his wine glass after losing another
round, saying, “I’ll drink this time!”
“Feeling sorry for me?” Charlie looked up after a sip of wine, his gaze deepening.
In front of Estelle and Jonathan, Emily’s face turned beet red. Trying to play it cool, she said, “Are you
drunk?”
Charlie ignored Emily and poured himself another drink.
Emily blurted out in a panic, “Or how about I sing a song?”
She turned to Estelle and asked, “Is that okay?”
Estelle, reclining leisurely on the couch, her eyes filled with anticipation, said, “Of course
Charlie also put down his drink and chuckled. “You can sing?”
Emily giggled, “I did a few times in college during events, but haven’t since moving abroad. If I’m not
good, please bear with me.”

Estelle was surprised at how well Emily could sing. She listened attentively, a sparkle in her eyes.

Turning around, Jonathan was looking right at her. Estelle paused for a moment, caught by his deep
gaze.
His eyes seemed to be filled with unspoken words, words he never shared with her.
Charlie’s gaze was fixated on Emily’s face, her trembling eyelashes, the deep and captivating song that
flowed from her lips, and her innocent eyes. Even as a mother, Emily still had the soft innocence of a
girl. But Charlie knew Emily was tough and brave.
As her song ended, Emily lifted her head, a hint of surprise flashing across her face
Estelle applauded, with Charlie following suit, chuckling, “I didn’t know you had such an impressive
talent.”
Seeing Charlie’s gaze on Emily, Jonathan smirked, rising from his seat to head towards the balcony.
Looking up at Jonathan’s retreating back, Estelle rose to follow him.
From the open balcony window, they could see J City, shrouded in a light drizzle. The hustle and bustle
had faded, replaced by a serene quietness, as if it had emerged from a hazy painting.
The moist air hitting their faces seemed to dampen their hearts.
Estelle and Jonathan stood shoulder to shoulder, watching the rain that seemed to never stop.
