Emily blinked, then couldn’t help but laugh.
Gavin crossed his arms, a smile on his face. “Glad to see you laugh, Mr. James will bounce back soon,
don’t take it too hard.”
Emily nodded, “I know, thanks!”
“I happen to need of a capable assistant like you. I’ll talk to Mr. James. How about you come and work
for me? I promise it’ll be a lot easier than where you are now!” Gavin said with a grin
Emily’s eyes widened, “Mr. Gavin, are you for real?”
“Absolutely, if you agree, I’ll go and talk to Mr. James right now!” Gavin straightened up and looked at
Emily expectantly.
Emily didn’t hesitate and shook her head, “Mr. Gavin, thank you for your kindness. Though Mr. James
has a temper, I’m grateful for the training he’s given me. He criticizes me because I haven’t done my
job well, but that’s not his fault. I have no intention of leaving, so I’m afraid I have to disappoint you.
“Are you sure you won’t reconsider?” Gavin asked.
“Nope!” Emily shook her head.
Gavin said regretfully, “Seems like I’m still not as appealing as Mr. James.”
“That’s not it!” Emily quickly responded, “I’m just used to working here, Mr. Gavin, everyone can see
your capabilities and I respect you a lot.”
Gavin chuckled, “Don’t sweat it, I was just pulling your leg!”
Emily smiled, “I was brought into the company by Mr. James and unless he doesn’t want me here
anymore, I’m not going anywhere. But if you ever need a hand, don’t hesitate to ask, I’ll do everything I
can.”
Gavin nodded, “That’s all I wanted to hear, get back to your work!”
*Sure.”
Gavin gave her a warm smile and turned to leave.
As Tracy went into the office to deliver some documents, she mumbled, “Frank’s file is missing some
info, I didn’t review it thoroughly, I should take some responsibility too, Mr. James, if you’re going to
punish someone, punish me along with Emily Sullivan,”
Charlie James recalled Emily picking up the documents earlier, his heart clenched, and his face
darkened, “Where’s Emily?”
“Emily was just chatting with Mr. Gavin in the copy room” After saying this, she added, “Maybe Mr.
Gavin was consoling Emily
The hand with which Charlie was about to sign the document stopped, he looked up and said coldly,
“What’s there to console? Can’t even take a reprimand for a mistake? Who has been spoiling her!”
Tracy kept her head down, too scared to make a sound or say anything.
Charlie took a deep breath and continued signing the documents.
After Tracy left, Charlie became angrier, he picked up his phone and made a call, as soon as the call
was connected, he asked, “What were you talking to Emily about?”
Gavin was surprised, he retorted, “Wow, so now I can’t even have a chat with Emily without someone
ratting me out to you?”
“What did you say to her?” Charlie’s voice got even deeper.
Gavin heard the seriousness in Charlie’s voice and stopped joking around, “I saw her looking pretty
down after your scolding, so I just tried to cheer her up.”
“You were cheering her up?” Charlie said discontentedly.
“Let me finish” Gavin said laughing. I suggested she leave you and come work as my assistant.”
Before he could finish, he could feel Charlie’s tension.
Gavin intentionally slowed down his speech, “But she didn’t agree, didn’t take it all into consideration.
She said that she’s used to being around you, is grateful for your guidance and has no plans on leaving
you.”
