Chapter 1162

Chapter 1162

Charlie took a bite, mulling over the taste in his mouth. The familiar flavor brought on a hint of sadness.

Emily, with her fork, meticulously separated the fish bones.

Charlie, gazing into her beautiful eyes, asked, “You’re getting used to the work environment here? Are

you okay?”

Emily looked up at him and calmly replied, “I’m fine, everything’s good

Charlie chuckled, “Take it easy, it’s still break time, no need to be so uptight

Emily continued deboning the fish and softly replied. “I’m telling the truth.”

“If there’s anything bothering you, feel free to let me or Tracy know. Don’t keep it all bottled up. I don’t

want my employees to carry around a bunch of pent-up emotions.”

“If there is, I’ll say something” Emily responded with a small nod and smile

Charlie was taken aback by her smile; his expression momentarily stiffened before he asked, “How’s

Kya doing?”

Emily paused; she didn’t look up. “She’s good.”

“Has she mentioned me?”novelbin

“Maybe, I guess.”

“What do you mean, maybe?” Charlie frowned.

Emily bit her lip, not responding. Charlie seemed to be having one of his mood swings again.

“Who’s taking care of her while you’re at work?” Charlie asked impatiently

“Still, Ms. Simmons,” Emily replied, head still down.

Charlie gave her a look and finally shut up.

They quietly enjoyed their meal. Emily pushed the deboned fish towards him and began eating her

own.

Charlie looked at the fish, his anger slowly subsiding.

After lunch, it was exactly two o’clock. Charlie told Emily not to worry about cleaning up, someone

would take care of it.

Emily nodded, closed the kitchen door, and returned to her desk to start work

About half an hour later, Tracy finally showed up. She seemed to have been out with a client, and once

back, she dug straight into work. Emily adjusted her pace to keep up with Tracy.

The afternoon was a hectic one, people from different departments constantly needed Charlie’s

signature or a word with him, and Emily made sure to serve them coffee on time. The rest of the time,

she worked as per Tracy’s instructions

No one was going to give her time to adjust, so she had to familiarize herself with the job as soon as

possible to not hinder the workflow.

Five o’clock was quitting time; at ten past five, Tracy went into the office for a bit, then packed up and

left.

Emily tidied up the content for tomorrow’s meeting, by the time she finished, it was almost six. She

stretched lazily, ready to call it a day and head

home.

As she packed up, she wondered what yummy dishes she could cook for Kya and Estelle.

Just as she was about to leave, Charlie emerged from his office. She was surprised; he hadn’t left yet.

She didn’t know much about his personal life before, only that he had a steady rotation of girlfriends,

and she had even caught him getting cozy with women in his office. She assumed that was his lifestyle.

But after a day of interaction, she realized that wasn’t the case.

He was focused at work, adept at managing complex issues in meetings, and displayed true

leadership. He was decisive, quick to act, and a truly competent leader.

Hence, the senior management of the company respected and obeyed him.

Setting aside their personal history, she too held him in high regard!

Charlie looked at her, the setting sun casting a warm glow on his face. He raised an eyebrow and

asked, “What are you waiting for not heading home?”

Emily snapped out of her reverie, her ears slightly red. She quickly nodded and said, “I’m leaving now!”

“How are you getting home?” Charlie asked.

“I take the subway, it’s convenient, Emily chuckled.

“Take my car” Charlie nonchalantly offered before heading out.
