Chapter 1138

Estelle kept her silence, but she felt a knot in her stomach. Was Emily really okay with all this?

Back then, Emily was pregnant and living alone in a foreign country. To pay off Noreen’s debt, she

worked part-time in a restaurant, sometime juggling three jobs in a single day. Once, she fainted at her

doorstep due to exhaustion and wasn’t found until hours later by her landlady.

The landlady couldn’t bear seeing her in such a state, so she pretended to be unable to cook and hired

Emily to prepare meals at home, waivin her rent and food expenses.

Emily used the bank card Estelle gave her once when she was jobless, but she never used the money

on it afterward.

Things only started looking up when Estelle and Manley Scott came to Oakdale City.

Emily’s design won an award, and she received a hefty prize. She replenished the money on Estelle’s

card and paid off Noreen’s debt.

These were just financial hardships. How much pain did Emily endure raising Kya over these two

years?

When Kya was weaning, Emily could only get three or four hours of sleep each night, on top of

attending classes and working during the day.

When Kya had a fever in the middle of the night, Emily had to carry her to the hospital herself. With no

cars in sight at 1 a.m., she walked 10 kilometers. She was practically crying the entire way. Who could

understand her helplessness and anxiety?

During her two years abroad, thank goodness for the landlady’s help and the frequent visits from

Estelle and Magdalen Sampson. Otherwise, how could she have held on?

Although Charlie was none the wiser, Kya was, after all, their child.

Emily had put in so much effort raising his child. Did she really still owe Charlie anything?

Estelle and Emily chatted late into the night. Kya, unable to fight the sleepiness, fell asleep peacefully

in Emily’s arms.

Looking down at Kya, a gentle smile appeared on Emily’s face. “As long as Charlie doesn’t know about

Kya’s identity, I have nothing to fear.”

Estelle chuckled lightly and said, “Don’t worry. Even if he finds out one day, taking Kya away won’t be

easy. Kya is my daughter too. He’ll have to get past me first!”

Emily turned to look at Estelle and couldn’t help but laugh.

Estelle went upstairs to sleep, and Emily went to her room with Kya.

Setting Kya down, Emily spotted the job application form again while tidying up the room. Upon closer

inspection, she realized the position of CEO’s secretary was filled.

Emily was taken aback. She was supposed to be his secretary. Wouldn’t that mean facing him every

day?

She would feel incredibly pressured.

Emily immediately called Charlie. The call was picked up after two rings. It seemed like Charlie was atnovelbin

a social event, as the sound of a bustling crowd could be heard through the phone.

Hearing no response from Emily, Charlie asked sternly, “What is it?”

Emily quickly composed herself and said, “Can I change my position? I’d be fine with being an

engineering assistant like before!”

Charlie laughed lightly. “Have a top graduate from Metropolitan University as an assistant? Isn’t that a

waste of talent?”

“I don’t mind.”

“But I do!” Charlie’s voice was cold. “All you need to do is follow my instructions. You’re not in a position

to negotiate with me!” Emily immediately turned pale. She fell silent

Charlie could almost imagine her expression and started to feel imitated. He said coldly, “I’m hanging

up!”

And with that, he ended the call

Emily felt utterly troubled How she wished she could call him back and reject him! But she never had

the courage Whatever. She had already been through so much in the past two years, what’s a little

more?

Since it’s about repaying a debt, she should show sincerity. As long as he could let her off sooner, it

would be worth it!
