Tyrone whispered, "You're awake."

Hearing Tyrone's voice, Quintessa snapped to full awareness, quickly sitting up: "How long have I slept?"

"It's still early, barely past 4 PM."

"That late?" Quintessa quickly threw off the covers and got out of bed.

Tyrone stopped her: "Where are you going?"

Quintessa tucked her hair behind her ears: "I need to get to the set."

Tyrone pushed her back down: "Look at you, you're as pale as a ghost. You're not going anywhere."

"But I have to. I have scenes tonight, and there's not much left. We could wrap up by this week. I can't delay everyone's schedule." Seeing her insistence, Tyrone could only say: "It's not even dark yet. What's the rush? Let's have dinner, and I'll drive you there."

Quintessa nodded: "Okay!"

Tyrone frowned slightly: "You're a woman; don't push yourself too hard."

"I'm not."novelbin

Tyrone chuckled coldly.

He didn't bring up her car accident, nor did he offer any words of comfort, because Quintessa wasn't someone who sought comfort. Like a lizard that's lost its tail, she might hurt, but she didn't need anyone's help to stand up again.

That's just who she was, fragile yet not weak, stronger than anyone yet immensely vulnerable.

Tyrone escorted Quintessa downstairs.

Mrs. York looked up and casually said: "You're up. Go drink that glass of milk."

Quintessa paused, surprised that Mrs. York had prepared a glass of milk for her.

Wilma brought the milk over to Quintessa, and she murmured: "I haven't had milk in years."

"Go on, drink. I had Wilma add some sugar. It won't taste weird."

Tyrone looked at the table, noticing there wasn't a second glass and asked: "Mom, where's mine?"

Mrs. York scratched her head: "You? Wilma, get him a bottle of water."

"Mom, why do I feel like I'm out of favor?"

Mrs. York looked puzzled: "Were you ever favored?"

Quintessa laughed out loud, "Sorry, couldn't help it."

Tyrone, seeing a smile finally grace Quintessa's face, felt content. He loved seeing her smile, no matter the kind - even if it was fierce or mischievous, as long as she was smiling.

"Mom, just when I thought you were being sensible and smart, you turn around and tease me?"

Mrs. York shrugged: "I can't lie, can I?"

Tyrone didn't linger on the topic: "Mom, Quinn has to go to the set tonight."

Mrs. York glanced at the clock, noting it was nearly 5 PM, and quickly stood up: "Oh, then I'll make dinner now. You can leave after eating."

Quintessa felt a warmth inside. She envied Tyrone for having a mother like Mrs. York she had one too, once, but had lost her and could never get her back.

"I'll go check out the kitchen too." Quintessa handed her unfinished glass of milk back to Tyrone.

Tyrone initially didn't want her to go, but then thought it might be good for them to spend more time together: "Alright then, go ahead. Wait."

Tyrone tilted his head, making Quintessa nervous, then he suddenly leaned down, kissed Quintessa, and licked the milk residue from her lips, "Tastes good."

Quintessa's cheeks flushed red. In the distance, Mrs. York peeked from the kitchen door looking eyes with Quintessa Before turning away nonchalantly to go back to her cooking.

Quintessa tugged at Tyrone's arm, pushed him away, and walked into the kitchen.
