Chapter 319

Jonathan found himself at a loss for words. His cousin, Emily, was known as someone of average intelligence and an innocentnature. Yet, at this moment, he couldn't help but feel she was demonstrating a level of cunning that was truly touching. Onemoment she was lamenting how the Winters clan had no love for Quintessa, and the next, she was gleefully recounting howshe'd caught Quintessa and Tyrone in a compromising situation in bed.

It was as if she hadn't outright said, "This is my son's woman; you're out of luck, so you might as well give up.”

Jonathan wanted to laugh, but found it rather difficult. He said, "Emily, what's with the weird talk? You got a bit of a doublestandard, don't you think? You tell me Quintessa is too flamboyant for our family's taste, but do you like her?”

Mrs. York waved dismissively, "Ah, you know how it is; once kids grow up, they're out of your hands. I've never been able tocontrol Ty; he's always been headstrong. As long as he's happy, that's all that matters to me. Besides, things have gotten this farbetween them. I'm hardly going to be the one to split them up. All | want is for Ty to settle down and start a family. As for hischoice of wife, as long as he's happy, nothing else matters.”

Jonathan's lips twitched at her words, which implied that Quintessa and Tyrone's relationship was a done deal. If he were tointerfere now, he'd be the outsider causing trouble.

Feeling a tightness in his chest, he asked, "The Yorks are a prestigious family too. Don't you care about lineage?"

"We're not like your family; I'm more open-minded," Mrs. York replied. "Let the kids find their own happiness. It's their life, afterall."

Jonathan managed a smile, "Well, they're not married yet. Anything could happen.”

Mrs. York chuckled warmly, "Oh, but you never know. Who's to say Quintessa won't be expecting in a few months? We're quiteprogressive in that regard. Getting the cart before the horse is perfectly fine by us."

Jonathan rubbed his fingers together, adding, "That's just a possibility. It's not set in stone. Everyone should have a fair chance, but I'm curious, aren't you worried about bringing trouble into the family? After all Quintessa has a bit of a reputation. Noteveryone in the industry likes her."

Mrs. York playfully slapped Jonathan, "Don't worry about it. | trust her completely. | used to have my doubts, but not anymore. Ifyou're interested in her, she can't be all bad. | may not trust my son's judgment, but | trust yours."

Jonathan felt like he'd been punched in the gut. So, his judgment was just for picking out a daughter-in-law?

The conversation had taken a turn he hadn't expected. What happened to the sweet and naive cousin? Her words left himspeechless.

“I've got to get to the set, let's chat later," he said, feeling eager to escape.

“Off you go, then," Mrs. York said, while waving him off.Once Jonathan had left, Mrs. York's friendly smile faded, and she snorted through her nose.
