Chapter 708

Chapter 708

Maja was alone in the office and went through all the files she needed for the morning.

Lunchtime, she popped into the nearby fast food joint to grab a bite and ran into Murray.

Murray was standing with a lady in her fifties, who was even holding his hand. They were standing real

close.

Maja didn’t want to butt in, but as she was about to leave, she bumped into them, and the lady spilled

her coffee on Maja’s pants.

She didn’t want to make a fuss and was just about to walk away, but the lady grabbed her sleeve.

“Stay right there! Don’t you watch where you’re going?! You spilled my coffee, and you got to pay for

it!”

Maja’s sleeve was being held tight. She frowned, turned, and looked at the lady.

The lady looked pretty fierce, with half of her coffee spilled. “What are you looking at? You owe me a

latte! You know what my son does for a living?! Once my son marries a rich girl, we’re going to be the

rich ones in this city!”

Maja slightly raised her eyebrows while Murray was still paying, with a bunch of food in his hands.

The lady’s eyelids were obviously lined, and her makeup looked a bit heavy, typical of the older

generation’s aesthetic.

Maja took a napkin and wiped her pants.

“I was standing here trying to leave, and you bumped into me. If anyone should apologize, you owe me

for these pants.” The lady was about to slap her, but Maja grabbed her wrist tight.

“Lady, can we be reasonable here?”

The lady took a deep breath, and her voice rose immediately.

“What are you trying to say? Are you looking down on me? Do you think I’m poor? Or too old?”

By then, Murray had noticed what was going on over here and came right over.

“Mom, what’s up?”

He had several bags in his hands that looked like gifts.

Probably for Zoey, since her company was quite close by.

The lady’s finger was almost touching Maja’s face.

“This careless woman, I criticized her a bit, and she mocked me for being poor.”

Murray recognized Maja at a glance. After all, he had heard a lot of bad things about her from Evelyn.

He also heard that this woman was a designer, just an employee.

“Son, make her apologize to me, then we can go. You said we don’t have much time for lunch, right?”

Seeing the amount of stuff he bought, the lady knew it was for Zoey, and was visibly unhappy.

“You bought these for Zoey? You’re not going to marry her in the future, why buy stuff for her? You

should think about how to get along with Evelyn.”

Hearing this, Maja knew that Murray’s family didn’t think highly of Zoey.

Murray also spoke up.

“Ms. Penny, please apologize to my mother.”

Maja found this amusing. Seeing Murray’s gentle and steady demeanor, it seemed like he was just

worried about losing face here.

There were office buildings all around, and bystanders had already stopped to watch.

Maja didn’t want to get tangled up with these two and immediately called a waiter, ready to pull up

CCTV footage.

Murray didn’t have much time for lunch, and he just took a break to visit Zoey. Now seeing that Maja

was going to delay him, he tried to persuade his

mother.

“Mom, I’ll buy you another coffee. There are plenty of rude people in this world, and you don’t need to

argue with her. I only have an hour to get back to the office; can’t waste any more time.”

The lady finally glared at Maja and pointed her finger at her.

“You got lucky today!”

Maja stood there, somewhat speechless. novelbin

When Murray and his mother left, Maja heard the lady ask, “I heard Zoey got promoted. With her low

college degree, how did she get promoted so quickly? Now she’s the CEO’s assistant. I guess she got

a big raise, right?”

Just as Murray was about to speak, the lady continued, “But no matter how much money she makes,

it’s nothing compared to the wealth accumulated by others over generations. You should clarify things

with her sooner.”

Murray had a look of obedience on his face, obviously very dependent on his mother, doing whatever

she said.

Maja was quietly following behind. The lady turned her head and saw her and got angry again.

“What are you following us for?!”

Murray began to persuade, “Maybe she works in this building too. Mom, don’t get angry.”

The lady huffed, only to see Maja also entering the same elevator with them.

Murray couldn’t help but say, “Miss Maja, are you doing this on purpose?”

Maja pressed the button for the top floor in the elevator and casually sald, “Is this elevator yours?”

The lady was about to rush over but was blocked by Murray.

“You little wench! We’re about to strike it rich, and this elevator might really become ours! How much

can you make working for others? At best, you’re just like Zoey!”

Maja didn’t expect Murray’s mother to be like this. If Zoey really married him, wouldn’t she be treated

badly?
