Chapter 626

Chapter 626

lan was still fuming, pissed off to the max because Maja voluntarily left that place.

But he was good at hiding his feelings, so he just kept a straight face and continued working, planning

to give her a piece of his mind later.

However, by the time he was clocking off, he got a call from Raymond Mansion.

Edith sounded a bit down in the dumps.

“lan, I messed up last time, and I’ve thought it through,” She said..

lan wasn’t really buying that Edith had had an epiphany.

Edith had always been all about Enc. After Eric’s accident, Edith had stormed off in a huff, gone for six

years.

How could someone who played favorites like that suddenly see the light?

But then Edith said something that made lan sit up and take notice.

“I’ve got some of Enc’s stuff here. Come and take a look and grab a bite with me while you’re at it.”

lan had never felt any family love from Edith, but he could also hear Selena’s voice over the phone..

“lan, we both want to apologize to you.”

Hearing this, lan couldn’t help but think back to a long time ago.

Eric had been kidnapped, and the Raymond family was all over the place. He could remember Edith

and Selena arguing with people, crying and asking, “Why did they have to take Eric? What will we do if

something happens to him.”

Edith was especially distraught, “Tell the kidnappers to take lan instead, they’re both Raymond kids,

they’re worth the same!”

lan was just a kid back then, standing there coldly, watching Edith crying uncontrollably.

“Eric, my Eric!”

Then the Raymonds really did start negotiating with the kidnappers, trying to trade lan for Eric, but the

kidnappers didn’t bite.

That day, the Raymond family was in total chaos. lan was too young to fully understand what was going

on, but being a kid, he got hungry fast. He was unable to suppress his hunger and was just about to

have some soup when Selena knocked the bowl out of his hands.

“Eric’s been kidnapped and you’re eating?! Do you want something to happen to him?!”

The hot soup spilled onto lan’s hand.

Young lan looked up at Selena.

Selena seemed taken aback by his gaze, she took a step back, and then muttered, “Emotionless

freak.”

lan knew very well that if the kidnappers had agreed to the trade, he would’ve been shipped off without

a second thought.

So, when someone suggested trading Maja for Carlene, he agreed to it immediately.

That’s the lesson he learned from the Raymonds.

It’s okay to ditch anything useless, even family.

Listening to Edith sobbing on the phone, lan felt a pang.

There were some things that can haunt a person for a lifetime.

He’s always wondered what made him so different from Eric.

“lan, you’re coming home tonight, right?” Edith asked cautiously.

lan nodded, “Yeah.”

So, after work, lan didn’t let Maja drive him home, instead he called and told her to go home herself.

Maja did have some things to take care of, so she went over to the Pennyfeather group.

There, she bumped into Shawn who was waiting for her. novelbin

Though Shawn was mostly back to normal, he was still a bit traumatized when he talked about being

taken away by Funfly.

“Penny, I’ve been waiting for you. There’s a director I want you to meet; have you ever heard of

Meetman Arkland?”

“The one who directed Palace of Desire?”

“Yeah, that’s the one. The show was a hit for a decade. But two years ago, Meetman was accused of

misconduct towards female actors, which tanked his reputation His wife also left him with the kids.

Penny, I ran into Meetman in a bar. He’s hit rock bottom, but I still believe in his talent. You mentioned

the show at a meeting once, I don’t think Meetman would do something like that, if there’s a chance to

help him.”

Maja had seen Palace of Desire and had a good opinion of Meetman. But his reputation was ruined,

his ex–wife even took jabs at him online.

“Penny, this actually has something to do with Carlene’s friend Laura, because Meetman’s ex-wife is

Laura’s aunt Harden.”

Hearing about Laura, Maja’s eyes flashed with anger.

Because Laura was still unconscious, the case of Neil’s car accident was still unresolved.

Laura’s family had been trying to bring an end to the case with money, but Maja had been avoiding

them.

Not only was Carlene constantly messaging her, but Laura’s relatives were also harassing her. She’d

barely been using her phone lately.

Maja rubbed her forehead, just as she received another call from the Tuttle family.

“Ms Pennyfeather, have you thought it over? We can increase the compensation to five million. Your

father Neil had cancer anyway; he didn’t have much time left.

That’s a lot of money; it’s surely a win for you.”

The Tuttles had initially only been willing to pay one million, and now it was up to five.

Maja hung up on them and continued to listen to Shawn.

“Harden is now a big–shot screenwriter, mainly dabbling in drama about everyday life. After her

divorce from Meetman, she took the kids and left him high and dry. She took over all his resources

and made quite a name for herself in the entertainment industry. But she and Laura had always been

at odds. If it weren’t for Harden, Laura would have been a star long ago, instead of only getting a rookie

award.”

On hearing about the beef between Harden and Laura, Maja knitted her brows. This Harden, who kept

reaching out to her, even offered a whopping five million. Clearly, she was very concerned about

whether Laura would end up behind bars.

If they were on bad terms, Harden wouldn’t go that far, unless Laura or her parents had some dirt on

her.

Maja tapped her fingers on the table, “Shawn, you go home and take a few days off.”

Shawn nodded, feeling a chill down his spine at the thought of Funfly.

“Funfly and Harden are pals, I’m starting to suspect that Meetman’s ordeal might be orchestrated by

these wicked women.”

No sooner had he finished speaking than Maja’s phone rang again. It was Harden.

This time Harden didn’t beat around the bush, and she directly threatened, “If you don’t accept the five

million compensation you’ll regret it. Ms. Pennyfeather, don’t dismiss my friendly warning, or your dad,

Neil, may not even be able to rest in peace. I’m telling you clear and straight, Neil’s ashes have been

switched, what’s in the um now can be dog’s ‘remains. I didn’t want to stoop so low–but you just

wouldn’t take a hint.”
