Chapter 584

Chapter 584

“lan, fingerprints can’t be faked. There are no two identical fingerprints in the world. This is what the

machine tells us. Eric is still alive. For some reason, he just hasn’t reached out to you.”

lan’s breathing picked up after hearing Fitch’s suppressed excitement.

“I’m coming over now. Let’s talk face–to–face.”

lan sat in his office, waiting in silence for Fitch.

Fitch arrived quickly, bringing the test results: “Now we just need to trace the movement of thisnotebook for the past three days.” novelbin

lan rubbed his temples, feeling a mix of emotions.

“Fitch, let’s keep this under wraps for now.”

He was worried that all of this was just wishful thinking.

Furthermore, even if Eric was still alive, he hadn’t made contact for six years. It could be that he was

unable to or that he had run into other issues.

All in all, this was a complicated situation.

Fitch nodded, signaling for lan to call Carlene and invite her to talk.

Carlene looked exhausted, having been up all night.

Getting the call from lan felt like being summoned for judgement.

She met them at the agreed location and saw Fitch.

Her body jolted, her complexion paling.

lan’s face was expressionless as he asked her, “Has this notebook always been with you?”

Carlene nodded, her hands under the table clenched tightly as if she was gripping onto her own flesh.

“Was it at the Shepard’s?”

“Yes, I had my bodyguard deliver it to you yesterday.”

“Which bodyguard?”

Carlene called over her bodyguard.

lan asked the bodyguard, “Did you encounter anyone when you were delivering the notebook?”

The bodyguard shook his head.

lan rubbed his temples again. “Alright, you can go for now.”

Carlene was a little surprised to see him not press further, but she didn’t say anything more, afraid of

tipping her hand. She left immediately.

lan and Fitch stayed, not revealing anything to Carlene due to the importance of Eric’s issue.

“Fitch, have you heard anything about the Shepards recently? If the fingerprint on the notebook

Carlene gave me was left three days ago, could it be that my brother showed up to save her? She

didn’t seem to believe it herself. I think she knows there’s no way my brother’s fingerprint could be on

that notebook.”

Carlene’s micro–expressions couldn’t lie.

Fitch was silent, furrowing his brows.

With one party deceased and many unanswered questions, it was hard to draw any conclusions.

“Ms. Shepard’s notebook has always been at her house. This means someone stole it from her house,

found nothing useful, and returned it to avoid suspicion. But Ethat makes no sense. If Eric knew it was

his notebook, wouldn’t he know exactly what’s in it?”

Fitch couldn’t provide an explanation. He stood up.

“I’ll have someone look into it discreetly. If he’s still alive and in Greenfield, we’ll find him.”

lan looked out the window, his tone indifferent. “I’ll have someone look into it too.”

Back at the hotel, lan checked some files, then couldn’t resist opening his chat with Maja.

There was a big exclamation mark, showing that he’d been removed as a friend.

His number was also blocked.

She had nothing to say about his investment in the EverBest Group.

He couldn’t help touching his lip; it had been hurting since she bit him the other day. He couldn’t eat

anything until today, only managing to drink some soup.

But the feeling of her blood and saliva mingling with his was like a thin wire wrapping tightly around his

heart.

It was a tingling sensation with a tolerable itch.

Then he, who rarely checked Instagram, opened his account and immediately saw a photo of Ryan

Elston and Maja.

Ryan’s Instagram was filled with typical rich kid stuff: luxury cars, beautiful women, and a thriving

nightlife.

After posting the photo, he wrote a caption.

“Bumped into an old friend.”

Maja looked a bit confused when she was pulled into the photo, as she was there for business.

The Star Movie group was still small, and no directors were willing to collaborate with her. She

couldn’t afford to wallow in the grief of losing her father. She had to grow her company quickly to

prepare for the future.

Chapter 584

At least until she fulfilled Neil’s last wish, a peaceful and beautiful life was out of her reach.

The director she was meeting was a rising star in the industry, well known domestically. His cheesy

script was looking for investors.

These cheesy dramas shouldn’t be underestimated; each had its own loyal audience.

They usually targeted lower–tier markets and were quite profitable.

Maja knew the director was meeting here tonight, so she came. She had about ten million on hand,

plus some assets from the Pennyfeather family, enough to fund two dramas.

But it also meant she couldn’t afford to make a mistake in her choices. If she spent all her cash, life

would become difficult.

She didn’t even have time to consider her divorce from lan, it was only a few more days.

lan messaged Ryan.

[Location?]

Ryan was initially enjoying drinks with his friends. He couldn’t believe it when he saw the message.

His cousin is reaching out to him?

He rubbed his eyes, then remembered his post on Instagram and was even more shocked.

His cousin checked his Instagram?
