Chapter 459

Chapter 459

Samuel was adamant about keeping Maja’s identity under wraps.

Maja’s

He’d already done one dumb thing last time; he couldn’t afford to screw up again and hand Maja over

to lan on a silver platter.

Wasn’t lan supposed to be into Carlene?

Well then, he can keep his mitts on Carlene!

Maja wasn’t part of the Raymond family.

Samuel was ready for this. He took Maja to a private makeup studio.

The makeup artist worked her magic, painting Maja’s face with loads of pimples, topping it off with a

bulky hat, and even dressing her in a brown and green outfit. Her aesthetic was beyond

comprehension.

Maja caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror, now sporting black–framed glasses and bangs covering

her face, with only her mouth and a few “pimples” visible.

Samuel stood behind her, marveling at the transformation.

“Even your dad wouldn’t recognize you if he was standing right in front of you. Just say you’re allergic

to pollen.”

Maja glanced at the time. That crowd must be getting antsy. So she picked up the painting.

“I’ve got to bail.”

“I’ll walk you there.”

Samuel, being the drama–loving guy that he is, wouldn’t miss this show for the world.

The car stopped outside the Shepard family’s place. Maja got out first, leaving Samuel behind to avoid

The second she walked in with the painting, she saw the twenty–something people waiting inside.

any rumors.

It was a big setup. Right in the middle was a four–meter–long table, with the appraiser already waiting.

“Sorry, I’m late,” she said, her voice lower than usual, ignoting all the stares and heading straight to the

table.

Edith gave a cold laugh at her getup.

“Maja, what’s your game?”

“I’ve got a contagious disease. I wouldn’t want to infect any of you fine folks. But if you don’t mind.”

She pretended to lift her mask and hat.

Edith felt a wave of nausea and hummed coldly from her chair.

*Just keep it on. Everyone here is of higher stature than you.”

Maja unfurled the painting in her hands.

The painting was torn in two, with a gap in the middle. She placed it on the table.

The two paintings looked so alike that the onlookers couldn’t tell which was the fake.

Maja stood tall and caught Carlene walking out of the corner of her eye.

Carlene was dressed to the nines and couldn’t help but chuckle at Maja’s rustic attire.

So, this was lan’s wife?

The little bit of skin she showed was all pimples. It was disgusting to look at.

She let her guard down instantly. Unless lan was blind, he’d know who to choose.

Carlene came over to stand out against Maja’s shabby appearance.

She wanted everyone to know that she was the one who deserved lan.

“Hi, I’m Carlene. it’s nice to meet you. Let’s get along.”

Maja looked at Carlene’s extravagant attire, her eyes utterly calm.

“I know you. You’re the woman who’s been trying to split me and my husband up. I heard about how

you got a tongue–lashing from Grandpa Holden when -you went to Rosewood Manor.”

The room went quiet.

Carlene’s arrogance was crushed by a powerful force. She turned pale and blurted out, “I’m not a

mistress.”

Maja pretended to be surprised.

“Really? Aren’t you the one who’s been pestering my husband every day, calling him ten times a

day?”

Carlene couldn’t retort because everything Maja said was true.

Maja glanced at the decorations around her and couldn’t help but comment.

“Grandma Edith had someone from the Pennyfeather family criticize me for my poor upbringing. Butnovelbin

at least I know not to seduce someone else’s husband. The Shepard family seems so wealthy, but in

terms of upbringing, it doesn’t seem to be much better than mine, does it?”

Her voice was a bit lower than usual, but her words were strong.

Carlene originally wanted to defeat this woman just by attacking her appearance, but she didn’t

expect Maja to bring up such a decisive issue.

She felt somewhat flustered and wanted to retort but didn’t know how to.

Thankfully, Edith stepped in.

“Maja, lan doesn’t love you. He’s going to divorce you sooner or later.”

Maja didn’t hold back.

“Grandma Edith, whether he loves me or not, we’re still married. Carlene is a mistress; that’s a fact.

She and lan have already broken up; at most, she’s his ex–girlfriend. I want to ask the other ladies

here, How would you feel if an ex–girlfriend kept pestering your husband?”

Carlene’s face turned red from humiliation. She took a deep breath.

“You’re just making excuses because you can’t win lan’s love. See this necklace I’m wearing? He gave

it to me. It’s priceless.”

As soon as she finished, Maja laughed.

“How did my marriage become an excuse? I still have the marriage certificate at home. Until we

divorce, anything he gives you is considered marital property, and I have the right to ask for it back. So,

Ms. Shepard, you might want to stop showing off, or else I might sue you and have you return the

necklace in court.”
