Chapter 457

Chapter 457

“Grandpa, I’ve got some stuff to deal with in Crystalbrook Valley.”

The old man’s gaze sharpened instantly.

“What’s got you running off to that place so often? Let me guess, you’ve picked up some new chicks

there, haven’t you?”

lan felt a knot in his stomach, worried that the old man might sniff out something. If he found out about

Penny, she might be forced to leave.

The old man was even more ruthless than he was.

“I’ll be back in the afternoon.”

His tone was nonchalant. After hanging up, he felt the familiar wave of exhaustion.

He sent Maja a text.

“What the hell are you up to?”

Maja’s lips twitched as she saw the message on her phone.

“I’m just protecting my rights.”

lan found this amusing. What rights? novelbin

What rights did she even have?

“Drop the lawsuit.”

“Why should I?”

lan’s anger flared as he read her response.

But he was puzzled. Why did this tone seem off compared to the woman he remembered?

Was she losing it? Or was she trying to get his attention in a new way?

Frowning, he quickly briefed the rest of the Raymond family before heading back to Greenfield.

Meanwhile, Maja was looking at the messages from lan.

She had an uneasy feeling that a storm was brewing.

If lan got involved, he would eventually find out her true identity.

But it was Edith’s mistake to pick a fight with the Pennyfeather family.

On Edith’s side, she had sent someone to fetch Holden, but the old man only spoke dismissively.

“You got yourself into this mess; you sort it out.”

She was so angry, and she could barely breathe.

Holden must have lost his mind.

To let an outsider run amok like this!

She sat on the sofa, too angry to stand, her scalp tingling.

That damn bitch.

Selena was also anxious. If Maja didn’t drop the lawsuit, Edith would have to appear in court. That

would be a humiliation no one could bear.

“Mom, the painting is fake, isn’t it? We just need to prove that the painting is fake.”

Edith nodded, “Yes, yes! We’ll take the painting out of our house and have a professional appraiser

look at it! If she wants trouble, I’ll make sure she can’t show her face in Greenfield!”

The whole thing was a mess.

Even Tyler and Fitch had heard about it. The appraiser Edith had hired was well–known within

Greenfield.

But Edith was still worried. Maja was relentless. Was there really something wrong with the painting?

She couldn’t help but call Carlene.

“Carlene, where did you get that painting?”

Carlene wasn’t stupid. She had heard about Grandma Edith being sued. Was this a doubt that the

painting she gifted was fake?

“Edith, I was almost Herbert’s student. Are you doubting that I gave you a fake? There was an auction

abroad a while ago where one of Herbert’s paintings was sold. I asked around for a long time before

finding out it was bought by a collector. I spent 60 million to get it back.”

Carlene seemed a bit wronged.

Having spent 60 million, the painting must be genuine.

Edith got her confidence back: “I’ve hired an appraiser. Tonight, I’ll make Maja a laughing stock. I’ve

also invited some friends from the circle!”

She purposely wanted to blow this up. Since Holden wasn’t handling this, she wanted to show him how

blind he was for choosing Maja! Maja heard that the Raymonds had hired an appraiser and that Edith

had chosen the Shepard family as the venue.

She was thrilled.

The Shepard family received many visitation letters saying they would come to watch the show tonight.

Everyone was curious to see what lan’s wife looked like after she dared to sue Grandma Edith.

Maja wasn’t afraid of losing face. She was afraid that lan would be furious once her identity was

revealed.

In her eyes, lan had a nasty temper.

She was also worried that the Raymond and Shepard families might collude and bribe the appraiser.

After all, it was something Carlene could totally do!

Her phone buzzed again. She thought it was lan again. But this time it was Daly

“Maja, Mr. Raymond hit Olivia with his car when he was leaving. We don’t know if the baby will survive.

She’s crying and demanding that Mr. Raymond take responsibility. The executives at Crystalbrook

Valley are blaming us, saying we’ve got a brazen daughter–in–law. I got fired. If you have time, you

should come down and see.”

Maja never expected Olivia to pull a stunt like this.

She was so desperate to latch onto lan that she dared to create such a scene.

“Mr. Raymond is fuming.”.
