Chapter 295

Chapter 295

Carlene turned to Maria, frowning. “We’ve been sitting here for ages; why haven’t you brought us

coffee yet? Is there a drought in Rosewood Manor tonight?”

She was criticizing Maria for not doing a satisfactory job.

Maria instinctively glanced at lan.

Carlene held onto his arm because he was running a high fever and looked a bit pale, but that didn’t

diminish his noble demeanor. He was sitting there with Carlene snuggled up to him.

Maria was pissed but couldn’t do anything about it. As she went into the kitchen to make coffee, shenovelbin

texted Maja quietly..

“Ms. Pennyfeather, you better get back to Rosewood Manor. Mr. Raymond brought a woman home,

and they seem pretty cozy.” Maja was already back at RosenGarden and had no intention of dealing

with Rosewood Manor’s issues.

Maria made the coffee and placed it on the coffee table.

Carlene glanced upstairs, a smirk on her lips. “lan, your wife’s not home?”

lan had no idea where she was and could only look at Maria..

Maria quickly explained, “Ms. Pennyfeather hasn’t returned yet.”

Carlene pretended to be shocked, covering her mouth. “When I called Ms. Casson, she said she’s

often not home at night. She doesn’t know what she’s up to. She should be home earlier since she’s

married, right? lan, you’re sick. She should take care of you.”

Mention of his wife made lan’s face even more sullen.

“don’t need her to take care of me.” He felt more at ease when she wasn’t around.

Carlene almost laughed at his words but managed to hold it back.

Maria couldn’t stand it anymore and excused herself, leaving lan and Carlene alone in the hall.

lan was still mulling over the data from the morning meeting when Carlene said, “I ran into Penny on

the way here. She lost my cat. You know how much I love my cat, lan. Now I’m very anxious, always

worrying something will happen to Milo.”

Whenever his wife was mentioned, lan either appeared indifferent or disgusted.

But at the mention of Penny, his eyelashes twitched slightly.

“Penny lost your cat?”

Carlene thought he was going to help her and nodded.

“The servant said Penny tried to pet the cat, but it ran away. I gave her two hours to find it. If she can’t,

I might have to go to the hospital.”

She didn’t directly ask lan to fire Maja, fearing it might annoy him.

lan didn’t say anything. He was thinking about how she had caused trouble again. Has the issue at

RosenGarden been resolved?

She didn’t call him, so it must have been resolved.

Now she’s pissed off Carlene. Penny probably can’t handle this. If that’s the case, she’ll have to call

him.

He lowered his head, his expression indifferent.

Carlene thought lan didn’t care about Maja, which pleased her. But Rita’s words worried her.

“lan, when I was at the Raymond Group, someone said they saw you coming out of Penny’s house.”

lan’s face remained expressionless and said, “She’s Ryan’s friend. Ryan asked me to drive her home.

She got sick and almost passed out. I had to help her home.”

Carlene sighed in relief, confident she could beat Penny.

She looked at lan affectionately, wanting to get closer, but the doorbell rang. Assuming it was lan’s wife

returning, she clung to his arm tightly.

That way, lan’s wife would understand her place in this house.

Maria opened the door, and upon seeing Holden standing outside, her eyes lit up, and she quickly

stepped aside.

Holden, leaning on a crutch, immediately spotted the two on the sofa clinging to each other.

He scoffed in annoyance, but a good upbringing prevented him from lashing out.

Carlene, seeing him, immediately let go of lan, and moved a few steps away, her face changing color.

Why would Holden come?

Her heart pounded, and her palms were sweaty with anxiety.
