Chapter 1803

Nathan mentioned Felix's name and glanced cautiously towards Carol's direction to gauge herreaction.

Carol simply arched an eyebrow before taking a sip of her soup.

Fiona, sitting nearby, was still trying to coax her, “Carol, you really should try this, it's delicious andNathan swears by its beauty benefits.”

Though Nathan was often unremarkable, flirtatious around women, he had been pretty decent to hissister over the years.

Carol took another bite of the slow-cooked peach pork, feeling utterly content. She was evenbeginning to wish she didn't have to leave.

But just then, her phone buzzed. It was Felix calling. Her brow furrowed in annoyance as she tookthe phone and pressed the answer button.

“Where are you?”

These days, Felix's most frequent questions were about her whereabouts.

Glancing at the time, Carol realized it was already eight in the evening. On Christmas' Day, she hadstayed at Nathan's house this late.

"Out."

"Come home for dinner."

"I've already eaten, Mr. Brown; you can dine alone."

Felix's tone instantly darkened, “Carol, I’ve told you not to make me angry.”

Carol felt a surge of irritation but knew all too well that if Felix got angry, she would be the one tosuffer.

“I'll be back soon.”

"Before nine."

Upon hearing those words, she hung up.

Nathan had overheard the conversation and knew she was about to leave, feeling a pang of regret.

Carol stood up, grabbing her bag from the side, “Sorry for intruding today.”

Nathan hurried after her, “Let me drive you.”

Carol raised an eyebrow but didn’t refuse. As she stepped into the car, she stumbled slightly, andNathan quickly caught her hand. It was so soft that he couldn't resist giving it a gentle squeeze.

Carol withdrew her hand and settled into the seat, “Just drop me off a few blocks away from theMiller family mansion; I'll walk the rest of the way.”

Nathan felt a twinge of regret; he had held her hand for just a mere two seconds.

“Okay.”

The car headed in that direction, and after about half an hour, which included waiting at traffic lights, they stopped at an intersection.

Coincidentally, Felix's car was next to theirs. Nathan recognized it, and it was obvious Felixrecognized his car too.

The window slowly rolled down, revealing Felix's face, “Nathan?”

Nathan didn’t dare lower his window; Carol was sitting right beside him in the passenger seat. Hewanted to floor the accelerator and run the red light, but Carol's hand caught his.

Her tone was nonchalant, “Just lower it a crack; he won't see me. What are you afraid of?”

Bewildered by the soft touch, Nathan almost lost the ability to think for himself and lowered thewindow just a sliver.novelbin

“Felix, didn’t you have a late meeting? Where are you off to now?”

"Just heading back to check on something."

Nathan was nervous, especially when Felix's gaze shifted towards him; he couldn't shake thefeeling that he was secretly hooking up with his buddy’s wife.

He was fearful and guilty, yet Carol's fingers were playing lightly with his, a subtle enticement.

Was Carol actually making a move on him? Nathan's mind was in turmoil; he hadn’t even fullyprocessed whatever else Felix had said, preoccupied with the warmth and softness of Carol'sfingertip.

After Felix’s car drove off, Nathan remained stationary. Carol's fingers had already let go of his, butthe honking from outside brought him back to reality, “If you don’t move, the cops will be over soon.”

Nathan snapped out of his daze and pressed the gas pedal. The car stopped about five hundredmeters from the Miller family mansion, and Carol was about to get out when Nathan caught herarm.

“What was that about, Ms. Miller?”

Carol looked at his trembling hand; he was clearly nervous. She settled back into her seat, “Whatdo you think it meant?”

“Carol, I’m not an idiot; you were flirting with me.”

Carol burst into laughter at his admission, noting the flush of embarrassment on his face; sheleaned in closer.
