Chapter 1749

"No need to know who I am, what matters is I can help you."

The man looked at Philip's blind eye, a crushing blow for someone as proud as him.

"What do you say, coming with me?"

Suspicion still clouded Philip's eyes as his brother, Phil, clutched his hand, "Philip, I really dream ofescaping to a small island to live out our days."

But his hand was roughly shaken off; their dreams were not aligned.

Phil yearned to gaze at the sky, to collect fallen leaves, to truly savor the world.

Philip, on the other hand, sought to dominate it.

Now destitute, Ian and Maja had found their happy ending; even Cynthia had met a peaceful close.

Why not him?

He was determined to be the stone that shattered their tranquility.

He stared coldly at the man, a smirk playing on his lips, "You better not be lying to me."

"Wouldn't dare. After all, Ian's on my hit list too."

The man bore such a striking resemblance to Ian, it was apparent he had undergone surgery forthat very purpose. His motives were yet unclear.

Philip didn't care to delve deeper. The enemy of his enemy was his friend.

He stepped forward to join the man when he heard footsteps behind him; Phil had decided to follow.

"Why are you following me? Didn't you want to find some island paradise?"

Phil had only one family member left in this world: Philip. If something happened to Philip, Phil's lifewould lose its meaning. But Philip's ambitions were too vast.

"I'll come with you. I've given up on the island."

Philip's temper flared at Phil's meekness.novelbin

"Are you a puppet? A robot? Can't you think for yourself?"

Phil was cowed into silence, standing still and quiet.

Philip saw this and his anger intensified.

Without another word to Phil, he glanced at the man who seemed to be enjoying the spectacle.

"Let's go. If he wants to follow, let him."

Over the years, Phil rarely left his side.

The man said nothing as they got into the car.

The atmosphere inside was tense, Phil silent while Philip studied the man's face.

"You look so much like Ian. Are you a knockoff?"

There had been other knockoffs before, even one of Maja.

These people were like tools, devoid of any real value.

The man idly cleaned his nails with a knife, exuding an air of nonchalance.

"You could say that, but I'm nothing like the trash you're thinking of."

Philip had a hunch about the man's identity.

Though the research facility had collapsed, the shadowy higher-ups had never come forward.

Their true identities were unknown, and over the years, they had amassed a collection of drugs forpurposes yet unknown.

This Ian look-alike's intimate knowledge of the facility suggested he was either one of the elite ortheir most trusted confidant.

Even Philip was unaware of the full extent of Dr. Sarah's secrets, let alone the rank-and-file at thebase.

Philip pursed his lips and sneered, falling silent.

The car headed for the private airstrip.

In Greenfield.

Ian sat on the couch, bending over subconsciously as an intense itch spread over him.

Jeff, alarmed, went to call a doctor but was stopped.

"It's no use, I just need a moment."

Sweat beaded on Ian's forehead; painkillers were ineffective against this feeling.

Jeff brought him glass after glass of water, but by the last, Ian could barely hold the cup.

It fell, wetting the carpet.

"Has Maja returned?"

"Ms. Pennyfeather went to the university. She said she won't be back for dinner."

That was a relief. He didn't want her to see him like this, lest she overreact.

"The court just sent word. With our influence, Queena's execution is set in stone and will be carriedout in two days."

Only with Queena's death would his obsessive urge to find her cease.

This yearning was devoid of romance; it was a bone-deep dependency on her presence.

Ian had yet to confront Queena, but he anticipated an addiction once they met, which could one daycost him his sanity.

Maja was pregnant, and he wanted her to deliver their child in peace, free from all worries.

"Good. Make sure Bernard keeps an eye on it."
