Chapter 1744

Carol had been holed up in the villa for two weeks, her cellphone powered off the entire time. Shefelt like she was falling apart. Knowing herself, she should've confronted Felix right away, but shedid nothing; just hid away like a coward.

Her mind was a tangle of the events that had led her here.

Listina had fallen ill, Felix was at her side, and Carol found Listina a doctor, covering over a hundredthousand dollars in medical expenses out of her own pocket. Listina kissing Felix, her fiancé.

The human mind was a curious thing. Maybe she was subconsciously avoiding the truth, whichexplained why she couldn't make sense of it all.

She remembered Listina's harsh words at the hospital, thinking she was just ranting, but what if shewas telling the truth?

If this was all a scam, it would make sense. She had been such a fool. Duped emotionally, takenadvantage of, and still dreaming of marriage with Felix, she was a complete fool. She had never feltso humiliated, so foolish in her entire life.

Lately, she shut out the world - no TV, no phone, no computer. When hungry, she nibbled oncrackers, when thirsty, she drank water, and she had lost twenty pounds as a result.

Then Yolanda came knocking. She was pounding on the door like a madwoman, "Carol! Open up,it's an emergency, Carol!"

Carol's world remained in chaos, but Yolanda's voice was too loud to ignore. She sluggishly madeher way towards the door.

Upon opening it, Yolanda burst in, "Carol, it's a disaster! Turn on the TV!"

For the past two weeks, Carol had avoided the television, refusing to absorb any news from theoutside world.novelbin

Yolanda powered on the TV, and the screen showed footage of Abner being taken away by thepolice.

Furthermore, a majority of the Miller Group's shares had fallen into the hands of a stranger. Thatstranger was Felix, a newcomer rising to prominence in Greenfield.

Carol's head throbbed with pain, hearing Yolanda's voice crack with sobs.

"Carol, oh no, this is bad! My dad was involved too. Two weeks ago, I overheard him talking withFelix. I wanted to warn you right away, but my dad found out and grounded me. That's why I haven'tbeen able to see you. He thought partnering with Felix would make him the president of the MillerGroup, but Felix double-crossed him. There's a contract you signed that's now key evidence againstmy dad. He's been thrown under the bus by the media, blamed for the company's takeover. Whatdo we do now, Carol?"

Yolanda was genuinely panicked; her world revolved around racing. She’d never imagined the MillerGroup could face such turmoil.

For Carol, it felt like the lights went out, nearly collapsing on the spot.

The news was broadcast in her language, but the words might as well have been in a foreign one, their meaning twisting away from her grasp. She felt her head sting like hell.

She squeezed her eyes shut, hoping it was all a hallucination, but Yolanda's crying persisted.

"Carol, you can't fall apart now. Felix is the new president of the Miller Group. My dad has beenfired, and all the old guard are gone, except for one - Mr. Miller's assistant, who's actually in cahootswith Felix."

Carol's mind buzzed again, recalling the last time she saw the two of them together at the hospital. There had been a flicker of doubt, but she hadn't dwelled on it.

She had never doubted Felix, not once, until Listina's words chilled her to the bone. Now, the newsshattered her completely.

She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.

Yolanda grabbed her and dragged her out the door, "Carol, we're going to confront Felix right now. Iheard Mr. Miller's situation is serious, linked to a car accident years ago. Maybe Felix will spare himfor your sake."

Carol's thoughts were still jumbled as they reached the Miller Group headquarters and stopped atthe top floor. She gazed at the unfamiliar faces around her, feeling lost.

Yolanda stormed into the president's office. Felix, dressed in a suit, was there with Abner's formerassistant reporting to him. At Felix's side was Listina, with a triumphant smile, bringing him a boxedlunch.

The scene was a dagger to Carol's heart.

Listina, spotting Carol, let a smug look flit across her face before the assistant discreetly left theroom.

Yolanda was livid, "Felix, what the hell is this? Have you been playing my cousin all along?"

Listina arrogantly lifted the lid off the boxed lunch.

"You two sisters can't put together a single brain between you. The situation is so clear, and yet youstill don't get it? Poor things. Felix only dated Carol to use the Miller family's influence to find me adoctor."

Listina rolled her eyes as she spoke, “By the way, I talked to Nathan the other day. Do you knowwhat Felix asked Nathan for?”

Felix uttered, “Stop it.”

"No, I won’t stop. Carol, remember how you bragged about sleeping with Felix? Haha, did you knowthat every time he was with you, he took drugs first? Those pills could get him excited even if hewas with a man. Do you really think it was you he desired? You're so pathetic, flaunting yourself, butin his heart, you're probably worth less than a piece of meat. Disgusting!"

Listina, having vented her spite, felt an immense satisfaction.
