Nathan hastily tugged at Listina's hand as soon as the words left her mouth.
"Listina, Felix is with Carol only because of you. Remember that jeweler who bought out yourfamily's business? That's Carol's dad. The surgeons for your operation were all brought in by theMiller family's influence. Felix is just playing with her to save you. He loves you, and the over 100thousand dollars for your surgery? That was Carol's money. She has no idea; Felix has beendeceiving her all along. You're the one who truly matters to him. Now that your surgery's a success,he's bound to break up with Carol."
Tears had already been streaming down Listina's cheeks, but at these words, hope shone in hereyes as she gazed at Felix.
"Is it true? Felix, you're with her just to get me treatment?"
Before Felix could respond, Nathan interjected eagerly.
"Carol's been nothing but a pathetic pawn from the start. Her father was behind that accident yearsago, and he took over your company. Felix isn't foolish enough to overlook that. Just the otherweek, he was telling me about his plan to swindle a share of the Miller family's stock, all to ensure acomfortable life for the two of you. What the Millers owe you, they can never repay."
Quickly wiping away her tears, Listina grabbed Felix's hand.
"Felix, I need to hear it from you. You and Carol, it's just a fling, right?"
Felix met her gaze and after a long moment, he uttered, "Yeah."
Joy exploded in Listina's eyes, and a triumphant smile curled her lips. That tramp was just a tool, apawn being played! The thought was exhilarating.
She kissed Felix's hand apologetically.
"Sorry for lashing out earlier. Did you get hurt? I was just so angry; I’m sorry."novelbin

Thinking of Ms. Miller as nothing but a pawn played deliberately by Felix in order to cure herdisease made her giddy with happiness.
No wonder she'd taken an instant dislike to Carol upon first meeting her; she was Abner's daughter,after all.
"Felix, when are you going to break up with her? My surgery is done, and in two months, I'll be fullyrecovered. I can't stand the thought of her near you."
"I'll visit the Miller Group. I want their shares."
Nathan, overhearing this, couldn't contain his excitement and jumped up.
"If anyone can do it, it's you. Just give Carol the cold shoulder for a while; then sweet-talk her intosigning. She's so love-struck by you right now; she's putty in your hands."
Listina felt a twinge of unhappiness at the thought of Felix continuing to interact with Carol. Sheloathed the sight of her - so pretentious and utterly repulsive.
She looked at Felix, unable to voice any objection, knowing all he had done was for her. If theycould secure the Miller family's shares, they wouldn't have to work another day in their lives.
After a minute of hesitation, she clenched her fist, "Felix, I support you. Whatever you do, I'mbehind you. But you have to promise me, the moment you get those shares, you'll break up with
Carol. And I don't just mean break up; I want you to crush her, let her know she's been yourplaything all this time, make her lose face so badly she'll never be able to hold her head up again!"
"Okay."
His answer was all Listina needed to breathe a sigh of relief, and the corners of her mouth turnedup as she toyed with her bottle of perfume.
"So, the skincare products you gave her, they were just to keep her off the scent, right?"
"Yeah."
