Chapter 1703

Carol was lost in thought when she felt the arms around her tighten. As he began to let go, panic fluttered in her heart. Shequickly turned and wrapped her arms around his waist.

"I've made up my mind," she said breathlessly. "I thought you were the one holding back."

Felix looked down, his hands momentarily stiff before they relaxed and rested gently on her back.

"It's not that | don't want to," he murmured. "| was just worried you were treating this like some fling."

Apang of distress hit Carol's heart, coupled with concern for his well-being. She let go of him abruptly.

"I'll whip up some pasta," she declared, heading to the kitchen. "Next time, don't scare me like that."

She could only make spaghetti with tomato and scrambled eggs, a simple dish she had mastered out of necessity. As she was dicing tomatoes, Felix appeared behind her, taking the knife from her hand.

"I'll take it from here. Go sit down."

Carol's heart melted at the gesture, and she turned to wait, lighting the stove to boil water.

As the pasta neared completion, Felix's voice broke the silence. "We were in a rush that day. Did you have the birth control?"He spoke without looking at her, his eyes fixed on the bubbling pot, his tone even.

"Yes, | did. I'm not ready for kids—t'm still young.”

Felix reached out and pinched her cheek playfully. "Let's eat.”

Carol's smile widened, and they sat down at the dining table together. She had already eaten at the Miller's and wasn't hungry, but she watched him eat, propping her head up with one hand.

"Felix, have you taken time off work these past few days?"

"Yeah, | took leave. What about you? Why are you home so early today?""The barbecue place let me go. I'm thinking of finding a new job."

Felix paused, and soon after, Carol's phone chimed with a new message. He had sent her around $2,300, leaving just $50 for himself.

"What's this for?" she asked, surprised.

"Take a month off if you want. Use the money to get by.”

Carol was never one to care much about money, but now she felt overwhelmed by the generous amount. She accepted it without hesitation, her smile unwavering.

After the meal, Felix cleaned up as usual. Carol texted her friend Maja.[My boyfriend sent it. | have a sugar daddy now.]

[Is that enough to buy a pair of gloves from your collection?]

Carol snorted softly and replied.

[You don't get it. It's the power of love.]

Maja didn't respond, and Carol worried she might've touched a nerve—after all, Maja's husband was still abroad, rumored to bewith his first love.

Carol quickly shot off another message.

[It's just for fun. Who believes in that stuff these days?]

[No, you're an innocent, Carol. | just don't want you to get hurt. Be careful.]

Carol didn't take the warning to heart. Maja had no idea just how wonderful Felix was.Felix had already washed the dishes and wiped the table over as well.

The weather was good today. The apartment was covered with sunshine. In the past, Carol had to travel in this kind of weather, but now she just wanted to stay in the apartment with him and watch movies.

Having finished tidying up, Felix joined Carol on the couch, settling beside her.

She was browsing for a movie, then leaned her head against his shoulder.

"What do you want to watch?" he asked, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"| don't know. How about a romantic movie to celebrate us being together?"

He chuckled softly and kissed her hair. "Sure."novelbin

She had hoped Felix would stay the day, but in the afternoon, he glanced at the clock and announced he had to leave.“You haven't rested in two days. Maybe take another day off?"

"No need. You take care, Carol. Let me know once you've sorted out the new job."
