Chapter 1519

Beck trailed a few paces behind Maja, taking the opportunity to fill Dylan in on the news that Cynthia,

the woman imprisoned on the island, was still alive. Dylan's expression was a mix of surprise and

concern as he rasped a warning.

"Keep a close eye on her."

By 'her', he meant Maja.

"Don't worry, Dylan," Beck reassured, waving him off before hastening to catch up with Maja.

The man standing beside Dylan crossed his arms, his brow furrowing in confusion.

"Is she really your sister?"

The awkward tension between the two was far from familial.

Dylan let out a sigh, considering his own checkered past. The fact that she wasn't cursing him out was

a stroke of luck in itself.

"The Olsons really don't care about what’s on that island?"

The man beside him was Abner, who had also caught wind of the secrets buried on the island through

his collaboration with the Sanders.

His eyes narrowed, a shadow passing over them.

"I'm not as ambitious."

"But you've got people to protect, haven't you? You've seen the laboratories on that island. No one

knows what they're researching, or when something might hit someone you care about. The Olsons

have a stake in Windhelm and across North America. Those looking to bring you down will naturally

target your loved ones. My father was powerful, and now he's bedridden. Who knows who the next

victim of this poison will be?"

Forbidden Island had caused such a stir because it harbored international contraband pills. With

ongoing research, the fear was palpable: had those illegal substances leaked out?

Everyone was on edge, desperate to uncover the island's sinister truths.

Abner seemed persuaded by this argument, leaning back casually against the wall.

"The Olsons will continue to provide firepower support, but I'm not joining your little adventure."

That was all Dylan needed.novelbin

He reached out a hand, his face breaking into a smile.

"The woman under your protection must be very lucky."

To outsiders, Abner was ruthless, having clawed his way to power over the bones of others. Yet, recent

interactions had shown Dylan a different side of him.

Clearly, the frequent texts from a certain lady brought out Abner's brighter moments.

When Abner was named, those who did so wished for him to survive hell.

At Dylan's comment, Abner's face twitched with an uncomfortable flash.

Maja and Beck arrived at the island's underground chamber by helicopter. The place was swarming

with international agents meticulously combing through the area. The chamber was heavily guarded,

layers of security inside and out.

Surveying the devastation, Maja grimaced. Even forewarned, the sight of the charred remains and

scattered limbs hanging from trees was jarring. Several clean-up attempts had been made, yet

remnants of the destruction littered the landscape.

War was brutal.

Remembering the passionate faces now silenced in death weighed heavily on her.

Beck stood beside her, taking a deep breath and nearly retching.

Beck pulled out a sanitizing wipe, took Maja's hand, and began cleaning her fingers. Re?d at

"If you're not feeling up to it, we can head back right now."

"Beck, I need to say something to my mother."

Knowing Maja's stubbornness, Beck conceded.

Her world had always been silent, devoid of sound unless that man spoke.
