Chapter 1369

He lowered his lashes, moving towards the revolving glass door nearby, and stepped inside.

Maja was delicately spooning the dessert in front of her, enjoying every bite.

It wasn't until she saw the approach of a man with a striking figure that her body tensed, and she

promptly placed her fork down, standing up and calling out with a polite tone.

“Ian, you’re here.”

Ian said nothing, instead walking straight up to Phelps and seizing him by the collar.

What the hell was going on here?

Phelps raised an eyebrow, a light chuckle escaping his lips, “What’s this all about?”

Before Ian could interrogate him, a hand landed on his own.

Turning, he saw Maja looking at him disapprovingly.

“Ian, if it wasn’t for Dr. Herrington, I could have died. You have no idea how terrifying those people

were.”

A flicker of confusion crossed Ian’s eyes. “You’re saying he saved you?”

Maja nodded, prying his hand away, “Why are you so on edge as soon as you arrive, Ian? You weren’t

always like this.”novelbin

Her tone carried a hint of disappointment as she spoke.

Ian felt as if his heart was being squeezed. He released Phelps and instead grabbed Maja’s hand.

“Maja, come with me.”

Maja’s gaze shifted to Phelps. “Dr. Herrington, are you alright?”

Phelps calmly adjusted his collar and shook his head with a smile.

Ian’s eyes settled on his earlobes.

The left earlobe lacked the supposed red mole, and the right was devoid of it as well.

His brow furrowed, but he had no desire to delve into that mystery. Right now, he just wanted to see

Maja, to speak the multitude of words he had for her.

The yearning within was near bursting; he truly missed her.

Phelps’s face remained amiable as he shook his head gently.

“I’m fine. You wanted to see Ian, and now that you have, go with him.”

But Maja hesitated, unsure of what was holding her back, just feeling a sense of unease at the thought

of leaving Phelps.

She fell silent.

Ian’s grip tightened abruptly. “Maja!”

Panic often raised one’s voice.

Just like his, at that moment.

His grip was firm, yet he felt as though he could no longer reach her heart.

What was going on?

Was it amnesia, like Fitch had experienced? But she clearly remembered their shared moments; it was

just that her emotions seemed to have dulled.

“Maja, do you remember what you said? You said you liked me, that you wanted to have kids with me.”

A spark lit in Maja’s eyes as she smiled at him. “Of course, I remember. But Ian, next time you can’t

treat Dr. Herrington like that again. He’s the man who saved my life.”

Ian felt a wave of helplessness wash over him.

Now, it seemed everyone believed in Phelps—Augus, Tyler, Maja. Everyone but him, making him the

odd one out.

“Alright, I won’t. Now, let’s go home, Maja. Don’t you miss me?”

“I do.”

Maja turned to bid Phelps farewell, but found herself unable to voice the goodbye.

After a long moment, she asked softly, “Dr. Herrington, won’t you come with us?”

Her question instantly tightened Ian's grip on her hand.

Phelps gave a small smile.

“No need. Keep this up, and Ian really will get angry. Go with him.”

Ian’s heart pounded furiously, a bitter taste in his mouth.

He held her tightly, forcibly pulling her to leave.

But Maja kept looking back.

Suddenly, Ian had a strong intuition.

Maja didn’t love him anymore.

It seemed Maja’s heart had changed.

This realization pierced his heart like a sword, instantaneously.
