Chapter 1360

On the bridge where the guardrail had been damaged by a collision, a crowd had gathered.

Some called the police, while reporters swarmed the scene, broadcasting live updates.

Maja had settled into a new car, both she and Phelps soaked to the bone.

Phelps handed her a clean towel and gently dabbed at her head. She was docile, like a well-behaved

puppet. In the past, she would have shrugged off any such attention and tended to her own damp

locks.

But now, a voice in the depths of her mind hypnotized her, "He won't hurt you. Listen to him."

She leaned back and slowly closed her eyes.

Phelps was close, so close he could count every one of her eyelashes.

After a long pause, he finally spoke.

"Do you seek out Ian because you love him?"novelbin

Maja's eyes snapped open, meeting his deep and oceanic gaze.

"Mhm, I love him, love him most of all."

"What if he were to marry another woman?"

"Who? Judith, the faux heiress? Dr. Herrington, didn't you say you knew who the real heiress was? You

even brought her here, didn't you? Call Augus now, tell him."

"Maja, there were two car accidents tonight. One involved the car you and I were in, the other was the

real heiress's car. I've already given Augus the license plate number and thrown in a paternity test for

good measure. Augus is at that crash site right now, and I can't imagine how he'll react to seeing his

biological daughter dead, especially since the whole thing was orchestrated by his own son."

Maja's heart skipped a beat. She stared at Phelps for a full ten seconds.

Phelps just smiled, his fingertip grazing her nose.

"What's wrong? Think Dylan got what he deserved?"

Maja didn't realize that with every move he made, he was pushing the boundaries further than before.

He was taming her, acclimatizing her to his presence.

But how could anyone caught in such a web see the situation clearly?

She forced a smile, her gaze drifting out the window, eyelashes casting shadows on her cheeks.

"It's just Mr. Sanders is so pitiful. To search for his daughter for so long, only to have their first meeting

be a final goodbye."

Phelps watched her profile, his dangling fingers curling slightly.

His eyes churned with emotion for a good ten minutes before he slowly reached out and pulled her into

his embrace.

Maja stiffened, then heard his comforting voice.

"Maybe it's all just fate. But Mr. Sanders has been through so much; he'll survive this too."

Maja didn't speak. Something felt off, but what exactly?

She couldn't pin it down.

Her face buried in Phelps's chest, she pondered long and hard but couldn't unravel the mystery.

She even felt a strange sense of peace, especially as the car swayed gently, lulling her to sleep.

Phelps's fingers paused, hesitating for a few seconds before slowly stroking her hair. He asked the

driver in the front seat.

"The dosage."

"Sir, it's still the maximum dose. I'm concerned Ms. Pennyfeather can't handle it."

"It's fine."

His tone was casual as he looked down at her face, his own expression unreadable, as if she was

nothing more than a specimen.

The car drove on, its destination unknown.

Meanwhile, at the scene of the other accident, Augus stood in quiet shock, a paternity test in one hand

and a photograph of a girl in the other.

The photo had come with the paternity test. The moment he saw it, his eyes lit up.

Just half an hour before, he'd received a call from a sweet-voiced stranger.

"Dad."

He thought he'd misheard while he was driving to meet Phelps, mistaking it for a wrong number.

"Miss, did you dial the wrong number?"

"Dad, it's me, your biological daughter. I'm on my way to see you. Dr. Herrington has told me

everything, but he's concerned for my safety, so he's had me stay at his villa. He said he'd come to test

you and my brothers' reactions. I've heard the Sanders family already has a daughter, and I was

worried about Judith lashing out, given her temper. I didn't want to return, but you've been looking for

me for so many years, dad."

Augus slammed on the brakes. He couldn't believe his ears.

His daughter?

Had Phelps really found his daughter?!

He was dubious; earlier that day, Phelps had said there was no information.

"Dad, I'm sending you the paternity test and my photo. In twenty minutes, I'll see you. I've missed you

so much, and I've brought mom's picture too."

Augus's mind was in turmoil. He received the photo and paternity test halfway through his journey.

The test confirmed their relationship, and the girl in the photo had eyes like Cynthia, his wife, and bore

a striking resemblance to her, only much younger.

His heart raced, and he immediately headed for the spot Phelps had mentioned.

He waited in the café for ten minutes before the girl called again.

"Dad, I'm passing a fruit stand. What kind of fruit would you like?"

Augus's heart filled to the brim.
