Chapter 1281

Ian raised an eyebrow, signaling for someone outside to bring in two chairs.

Outside, the folks knew Patric had been kidnapped, and everyone was wary of making a move.

Ian closed the door again, smashing the window with a chair.

The roar of a helicopter filled the air as a ladder descended.

He blocked the door with a cabinet, preventing those outside from entering.

"Maja, I'm taking you away."

Without hesitation, Maja wrapped her arms around his neck.

Ian left a message for Patric.

"Don't forget to report to Grandpa Bernard. Also, thanks for taking us in these past few days, providing

Maja and me a love nest."

Patric sat on the bed with a solemn face.

On the helicopter, Maja couldn’t see anything, she only felt herself being held tightly. The wind was

strong, causing her hair to flutter everywhere.

She nestled into Ian's chest, only hearing their heartbeats.

Upon arrival at Greenfield Gardens, Ian had already contacted Phelps, asking him to examine Maja's

eyes.

Phelps arrived quickly, along with Fitch and Tyler.

No one voiced their thoughts, but it was clear to everyone, Ian needed Maja.

After examining her, Phelps pulled out his medical kit.

"None of the injuries are severe. Her eyesight will recover once the bruising in her head subsides. Her

throat should recover within a week. It's swollen, she can't speak, but the poison wasn't too potent."

His cool fingertips brushed against Maja's throat briefly before he retreated, leaving behind a bottle of

medicine.

"Take this, you'll be able to speak in three days, fully recover in a week. As for your eyes, we'll have to

wait and see. For now, take the medicine to ease the symptoms."

Upon hearing she could recover, Ian breathed a sigh of relief.

Tyler started a conversation with Phelps.

"Phelps, your medical skills are extraordinary. Why didn't those research base guys recruit you? You

and Eric are equally talented."

Fitch retorted.

"What are you talking about? Would you dare to chat with Eric now?"

Tyler clammed up. He indeed didn't dare.

Who knew what kind of freaks were in that research base? Back when Tyler and Eric were together, he

didn't feel any pressure from him.

But now, no matter how gentle Eric's smile was, he always felt like at any moment, Eric would pull out a

dagger and plunge it into his heart.

It was a feeling of a knife hidden behind a smile.

Phelps took a sip of his tea, his pale fingers setting the cup down.

"I'm actually quite interested in that research base. I wonder what kind of research they're doing."

Tyler laughed in reply, "What else could it be? So many countries are scrambling for the results, it's

definitely not anything good. And even if they invited you, would you dare to experiment on live

subjects? Only a psychopath would treat people like lab rats. Phelps, you used to cry for half a day

after killing a single rabbit as a kid."

Phelps' lips curled into a smile, "But now, I've lost count of how many rabbits I've killed."

"As a doctor, well, you have no choice. Here's to all the rabbits and lab rats that died for medical

progress."

Tyler handed Phelps a bottle of liquor.

Phelps chuckled lightly.

"Right."

Fitch ignored Tyler's antics, his fingers lightly twirling his phone.

Meanwhile, Ian's attention was focused solely on Maja. One moment he was asking if her head hurt,

the next, if she felt any side effects from the medication.

Maja shook her head, saying she was a bit tired.

Ian took her upstairs, saying to the others,

"You guys can head home."

Maja leaned into him, truly a bit worn out.

Even though they were at Patric's villa these past few days, Ian would take any opportunity to make

love with her.

Now, she was placed on the bed, waking up in the middle of the night from a nightmare.

She felt hungry, and reached out for Ian, but couldn't find him.

She wanted to call out, but remembered her voice wasn't back yet.

So, she started to feel her way around the room.

This was Greenfield Gardens, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as Ian was here, she felt safe.

But tonight, she not only felt hungry, but her head ached so much she thought she might faint.

"Ian?"

She tried calling out, and found that she could make a sound.

What was happening? Didn't Phelps say she needed at least three days to speak?

It had only been one night.

"Ian?"

She stood in the empty hallway. She heard the study door open in the distance when Ian's voice

reached her.

"Maja, what's wrong?"

She breathed a sigh of relief.

"Why aren't you asleep at this hour?"novelbin

He laughed lightly.

"It's daytime now."

She felt a bit embarrassed, forgetting that she was blind and could not perceive the passage of time,

thus she didn't know whether it was day or night.

She smelled a familiar scent throughout the villa.

She frowned, sniffing carefully.

"This is the incense Phelps gave me. It's calming."

The scent was different from what she had smelled at Mr. K's. It was fresher.
